Does Bouygues, Contractor on the $1 Billion Port of Miami Tunnel, Have a $1 Million Yacht?

According to a tipster, this is Bouygues's $1 million boat.
These are dangerous times for the conspicuously wealthy. Overtaxed voters just threw out BMW-driving county mayor Carlos Alvarez. The outrage over George Burgess's $500,000 severance package is still palatable.

But nothing brings out the pitchforks quicker than a public works boondoggle. So is it any surprise that Bouygues Civil Works of Florida, the contractor hired to dig the $1 billion Port of Miami tunnel, is keeping quiet about its sweet 52-foot yacht?

A tipster sent us this photo and claimed the Sea Ray Sedan Bridge 500 belongs to Bouygues, the French company infamous for damaging wetlands and destroying mangroves on Virginia Key earlier this month.

Florida Yachts International broker Nicolas Guitard quoted Riptide a cool half-million when we asked the going rate of the 2004 cruiser. But at least one website lists a base price of $1,012,666 for the boat, at least when new.

Bouygues spokeswoman Luz Weinberg told us she couldn't comment about the boat aside from insisting it wasn't bought with public funds.

"The contractor has a private boat just for private events," Tunnel Project spokesperson Liz Fernandez echoed. "It has nothing to do with the project at all."

That's all fine and well, but a $1 million private yacht doesn't look too good when the public is already worried about the ridiculous price tag of a largely unnecessary project.

Of course, Riptide asked for a ride on the yacht, but our request was denied. Here's a larger photo of Bouygues's sweet sea ride, supposedly docked somewhere in Coconut Grove:

We can only imagine that Bouygues execs sing this song as they parade around Biscayne Bay with a bunch of models, champagne, and nautical-themed pashmina afghans:

But, read between the lines...reserved for private parties. I wonder how many of our public officials have feasted at that trough.

The point that's missed is, We the People will either pay for that boat now or later but, We will pay for it! As for the Tunnel, wow!!!!! The People of Miami-Dade County got SCREWED AND TATOOED on that deal. How could so many people sit on their hands when this crap was first mentioned?

It's Florida. Successful people have boats. Is this news to you? It's a 2004 model and nobody ever paid full pop retail for their boat so that MRSP is retarded and a real "grab at straws"! At least it shows the guy has an interest in the water he's working under, so is probably considerate of the enviroment. I'd be bothered if he DIDN'T have a boat! What's your fucking point?

extremely stupid article. i'm all for accountability, but you are grasping at straws. the contractor has a nice boat, so what? it is a 2004 model, seven years old. who knows when the boat was purchased? we do know that the tunnel project started less than a year ago. what is the significance of a boat that a contractor has owned possibly for many years before the project started. very surprised that NT bothered to run this lame duck story.

This writer is an absolute idiot. Quite possibly the most uninformative, useless, benign column ever.

Seriously, what is your point? A successful major corporation cannot buy a boat if they're contractor for a public project? Why? Is this supposed to be ground-breaking journalism exposing some great public wrong?

",,,but a $1 million private yacht doesn't look too good when the public is already worried about the ridiculous price tag of a largely unnecessary project."

Doesn't "look too good" to who? You? If that doesn't look good to you, you have no concept of free enterprise, free will or basic human rights.Good luck trying to manufacturer a controversy, here. Only another idiot like yourself would be persuaded by your argument.

Jesus Christ.

Seriously, who cares? Such a hater. The French-company signed a $1 BILLION contract for an unnecessary tunnel that our county morons passed, your point? Keeping quiet? Where they suppose to call you? Is this Luther using an alias? It smells like his crappy writing. I wish I was able to to finagle a deal like that and then go buy a yacht. Actually, first, I would go get my Ferrari to drive to the yacht dealer and then go pick-up your girl and have her blow me with the top-down. Go hug a tree!

Don't get all worked up, that's a $400k boat at best. I'd be more interested to see what he replaces it with once the tunnel is done!
