Jacory Harris Back Atop Canes QB Depth Chart

Sure to be overshadowed by the alleged "fuck the police" antics of linebacker Ramon Buchanan, but more relevant to next season's on-the-field action comes the news that Jacory Harris is once again the number one QB for the Miami Hurricanes. The news comes as the team released its second depth chart as it heads into spring training. The first depth chart surprisingly listed Spencer Whipple ahead of both Harris and rising sophomore Stephen Morris.

Harris is now listed as the first-string QB, with Morris listed as second. They've both moved up one spot since the initial chart. Spencer Whipple -- who is a nice enough guy, we're sure, but is on the team only because his dad was former offensive coordinator Mark Whipple -- is back down to his rightful place as third-stringer.

That doesn't mean Harris has won the QB competition just yet. New coach Al Golden has said the first depth chart represented off-season dedication. So, if anything, it means Harris is determined to salvage his college career. The kid has flashes of genius, and didn't enter last season as a potential dark horse for a Heisman for no reason. The former coaching staff under Randy Shannon openly took a lot of responsibility for Harris's trouble with throwing interceptions.

Maybe Harris just needed a change in coaching. Or maybe he's the kind of player who looks brilliant on the practice field but can't quite translate it to the playing field. Following last season's injury and Harris's uninspiring play in the Sun Bowl, many fans had hoped promising sophomore Stephen Morris would take the reins of the Canes offense. That's not out of the cards yet, but it seems Harris might want it more.

Elsewhere on offense, running back Storm Johnson and receivers LaRon Byrd and Travis Benjamin have also regained their first-string status. Redshirt freshman Travis Williams has garnered the top linebacker spot following Ramon Buchanan's suspension.
