Miami-Dade Police are on the hunt for Jesus Alvarez, 41, after he set his girlfriend on fire following a fight in their mobile home. The incident occurred yesterday after 6 p.m. in the 2200 block of NW 27th Avenue. The woman is at Jackson Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

Alvarez and his unidentified girlfriend got into a fight that soon turned violent.

"He then went inside the trailer, dragged her out by her hair, and began to douse her with fuel -- we believe it's gasoline -- right in the middle of the street, in front of her mother," Miami-Dade Det. Roy Rutland tells NBC Miami. "That is the point that he used some sort of accelerant and lit her on fire."

Alvarez fled the scene before police arrived.

He has several prior arrests and has spent time in prison.

A friend of the victim tells NBC Miami that this isn't the first time he has been violent and that the two have had a tumultuous relationship.

Anyone who might know of Alvarez's whereabouts is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
