Luther Campbell wants to debate, so why won't the LBA invite him?
With the Miami-Dade County Commission likely to set a special election for a new mayor today, the Latin Builders Association has already made plans to hold the first debate on March 25 with only a select group of candidates: Hialeah Mayor Julio Robaina, County Commissioner Carlos Gimenez, and Marcelo LLorente. Left off the battle: Luther Campbell.

Maybe the LBA is skittish about what the former 2 Live Crew front man may say to the trio of establishment candidates. We certainly know Campbell is not afraid to call em like he sees em. "They ain't ready for me," Campbell says. "They want to make it seem like there is only three candidates running in this thing."

Campbell may just go ahead and crash the party, which is being held at the Big Five Club, 600 SW 92nd Ave., at 1 p.m. this Friday, in case any of his supporters and fans want to tag along.

Or better yet, voters can call the LBA at 305-446-5989 and LBA President Noelia Moreno at her business, Moralmar Kitchen Cabinets, 305-556-1520, to let her know that Uncle Luke and other candidates for the special election deserve to communicate their platform alongside Robaina, Gimenez and Llorente.

Oh, well, what a surprise that the "Latin" or sp!c Builders Assoctiation would put down a black man! We've all seen this before haven't we? The LBA is a pile of racist sh!t and these idiots need to back off. They simply don't want Luke to run because he isn't Cuban and/or White. It's so obvious. Its so obvious that the majority of Miami's latin community are bigots and racist. Just look at all these idiotic comments made by the community. Its time Miami-Dade county gets a new breath of life in politics. No more of these rafters. I can't take it. The majority of non-cubans can't take it. Thankfully I got out of that banana republic. But I do feel for the helpless people of Miami who must conform to these banana republic idiots. IMO Luke is much more deserving than these f@cking rafters.

Yo Luke whats up with our Gov Rick Scott? Now he has the state of Kuntucky blaming Florida for thier Oxycotin problem. We all know Rick the Hick turned down money that was offered by the drug companies to create a database to track and end this form of drug abuse and fraud .What is his problem with that? Has he got some clinics somewhere in Florida making him money. Remember he was indited (not convicted as he would say) of one of Floridas biggest medicare fraud cases in History. But now he wants to spend money on drug testing all Gov employees! I thought they drug tested them before they where hired. Your fan Eugene White. We met @ the Double tree Grand in Miami I was working security and I still have a picture of you and me in front of the christmas tree in 2003. I still want to get it autographed if we should happen to meet again. And I would vote for you.

Show many of these young Black men how to be fathers and how to be a positive influence in their communities, rather than write absurd columns blaming everyone else for their problems in society or much less run for Mayor.

Luke deserves to be heard. Who elected the Latin Builders Association the kingmaker of county politics. It seems to me that these latinos are afraid of what the black man has to say! Luke, you should find another avenue at reaching the non-hispanic voters in the Coral Gables, Grove, Pinecrest and Palmetto Bay corridor who grew up listening to you. It's time to show us that you've matured into the community leader that you are.

No one elected them. Anyone or group is free to put on a candidate forum. But those who do go through the trouble of setting up these events are free to invite whomever they choose.

Matured? Community leader? More like angry racist who feels compelled to blame the "man" for everything wrong in this community. Be a real leader and show people how to raise their families with values and become productive members of society and take personal responsibility for their actions.

Perhaps it's better the New Times is the only news outlet which is taking Mr. Campbell's candidacy seriously. I'm sure that this has nothing to do with the fact the he is employed by the new times.

If this is truly "Luke," thank goodness they do not pay you for your remedial and one-sided articles. Not to mention that your articles lack depth, character and the basic format and composition one was taught in first grade. Honestly, look at your reply: You want to run but you can not even compose a logical statement as to why someone should vote for you - your grammar is so atrocious. It was so simplistic but without your editor or intern, you seemed to grammatically kill the English language. I wish they would let you debate for two reasons: 1) Its only fair and 2) because I need a good laugh.

caesar, so are you actually implying that the other "candidates' are masters of the english language?

Knowing how to spell and type a proper reply might help your chances. Won't get my vote...

Luke, you answered someone who loves career politicians. Kevin and Alvarado are more than likely Tea Partiers who will never vote for you but will be quick to vote for career politicians such as Rubio and the Hialeah Mayor and say "change is coming" (not to mention a crook who became rich off government spending programs)

I recognize most of the names posting on this article because they post all the time talking bad about you, banana republican, and the other guys who write articles on this site.

Please campaign hard with non-cubans (chileans, brazilians we are with you) and no-tea partiers. We do not need them to win. I grew up listening to your music so I feel a little bit of me is running for mayor. It is not the same for me with all these career politicians.

Experience is the last thing we need in a politician.

Whether or not Mr. Campbell a paid employee is irrelevant. The fact is that you write a blog for the New Times, so they have a vested interest in promoting his candidacy as it would increase traffic to their website.

Just because a candidate thinks that their candidacy is serious does not always make it so. Dennis Kucinich thought that his campaigns for the White House were real, but most just regarded him as a joke even though he was a sitting member of Congress. Newspapers, TV, and political groups such as the LBA and Miami Young Republicans are simply unconvinced that Mr. Campbell is a serious candidate.

Being a Democrat may not be such a plus. Look at how Marco Rubio kicked Kendrick Meek's butt last year in Miami-Dade.

Cudjojon

You know who else is irrelevant? You.You post here all the time bad mouthing people. Who in the world is paying you to come here to write retarded comments.

Luther, you don't really want the job. It's a ton of work and hassle, relax and enjoy the life you have. We don't want you Sarah Palin-ing Miami and quitting part way through.
