Six Canes Football Players Suspended for Season Opener
Besides Henderson, the five other players are running back Storm Johnson, linebacker Kelvin Cain, defensive back Keion Payne, defensive lineman Dyron Dye, and defensive back Devont'a Davis.
Original reports suggested the punishment was for academic reasons, but NBCMiami's sources say the six broke team rules.
The program would not confirm or deny the suspensions, and coach Al Golden is on vacation.
Golden addressed speculation last week when the rumors surfaced, but only concerning Henderson's possible transfer.
"Seantrel has every intention of remaining with the University of Miami and our football program,'' Golden said in a written statement released to the Miami Herald. "It is disappointing that individuals are taking the liberty to hypothesize on his future. He is coming off a strong finish to off-season workouts, rotated with the first team on Thursday and is well respected and liked by his teammates. Seantrel is growing into a leader, loves the game and cares deeply about being a part of the Miami Hurricane family.''
Golden would not address the suspensions at that time either.
