Video: Drunken Swedish House Mafia Crowd Fights Miami Beach PD

Along with an alleged gang rape at the Fontainebleau and an intoxicated drowning death at the Clevelander, Ultra Weekend also brought us a scary near riot on South Beach as a drunken crowd surrounded and taunted two cops trying to arrest an unruly couple outside a Swedish House Mafia show. Videos of the arrest -- and the fist-fighting brouhaha that followed -- are popping up all over YouTube now.

The trouble started Saturday night when a Funkshion Fashion Week show headlined by the Swedish House Mafia was oversold by at least a couple thousand tickets, the Herald reports.

When a fire marshal tried to stop more people from entering a tent set up at 9th Street on the beach, the crowd went nuts and tried to storm through the barricades. Eventually, fearing officers were risking their lives, they let the crowd in.

But moments later police chased after a young woman, identified by the Herald as 25-year-old Sara Greenback from Maryland, who had been tossed from the show for being disruptive. That's when things really got scary.

As you can see in the video below, an outraged crowd of nearly a hundred surrounds the two cops after one throws Greenback to the ground. Clad in a purple dress and gold shoes, Greenback flashes peace signs but refuses to be handcuffed.

(Update: Greenback's sister, Laura, called New Times to say that her sister was not on drugs -- contrary to the title of the YouTube video above -- and that her odd reactions to police in the video are because she'd been pepper sprayed in the face. We've asked to speak to Sara as well and will certainly update the post when we hear back.)

The two officers were quickly outnumbered by a crowd shouting, "Dude, that's fucked up!" One partier, Abelardo Antonio Soto of North Miami, started throwing sand. And pretty soon a full-on fist fight broke out and dozens were arrested.

Check out a full sequence of events in the videos below:

Update 2: Police say the officer who body-slammed Greenback was justified.

And we've posted new video that shows the crowd outside the Swedish House Mafia show bum-rushing the gates after being denied entrance.

I think she was body slammed for wearing that purple outfit. In fact, her gay (or not) bf that let her wear that out should be body slammed. Now I know that's not an original Dior.

You know what the ignorant comments left here by people that have no idea what they are talking about or what they are looking at really upset me. The officer was clearly just trying to put the woman in handcuffs for w/e reason and she resisted him. By law, read chapter 776 of the Florida Statue book for those of you that like to google, the cop can use force at passive resistance she was clearly at active and then aggressive. She did stop resistance after being slammed and then strated again when she got cuffed. The other man was given an order to not approach the officer apprehending the woman and did not do so, passive resistance which turned agressive when the officer put his hands on the man. Educate your self before you come on here bashing people, and I have been pepper sprayed and trust me I wasnt putting up peace signs and resisting cops when it happened to me.776.05 and 776.07 read it. These cops on the beach are out there keeping order and doing their jobs, trust me if those police were not out there every day people would be getting raped in allies, robbed at stop lights, and there were would be a hell of a lot more fights out there. You should be thankful that you can go to a beach like sobe and be able to tan peacefully and not worry about getting your chain snatched. Dont break the law and the police are not gonna bother you bottom line.

What's with the video links you posted?

Also, you people need to read the official article before you pass judgement. The video doesn't show the guy who is on the ground, before he wad on the ground. He struck the officer on the head with a weapon, which caused the officer to need stitches at the hospital. He also threw sand at the officer and was inciting the crowd. Kinda changes things when you are one injured officer, trying to arrest someone who is resisting, and keep your eye on an unruly crowd.

You need to watch the first video. It most certainly shows him "before he wad on the ground".

"cops didnt let it ticket holders" last time I checked that not in their job requirement. If the host or venue over sold tickets and the place was packed past its limits, it is their or the fire marshals responsibility to not allow more people in. If you LIVE here you know clubs and party hosts - hosting parties like this give 3 shits if you're a ticket holder or not. they let ppl in with no tickets but who at the door pay 5 times what you did and THEN you come in late.... sucks to be you.Cops dont have to give 3 shits about the ticket sales. and they dont. If a cop tries to arrest you let him. you'll have a better chance of getting out of it handling with lawyers then resisting arrest in any way.

Anonymouse
Anonymouse

Good advice! While you're at it, if someone tries to rape you, let him. You'll have a better chance of handling it with lawyers than resisting rape in any way.

right be she probably did nothing wrong, i mean she LOOKS completely sober and normal.

comparing it to someone raping you?? thats a bit much. clearly you have enough witnesses (and not to mention footage) of what happened.

Mikesmith07chev

You people need a course on how to listen to the police when they give you a lawful order. Put your stupid video phones away and try to help the officer. Did you ever consider that? No because all you dope smoking hippies care about is crying about how mistreated you are. Quit your crying and realize that if you act like an animal you will be treated like one. Plain and simple. If you don't like it,stay home.

Anonymouse
Anonymouse

key words - "lawful order"......telling people to leave a public beach is not a lawful order, and resisting that order is not unlawful.

Just because a police officer says something, does not make it lawful. They are "law enforcement", not "law makers". Or are you unaware that police are permitted to lie to citizens?

Mikesmith07chev
Mikesmith07chev

Actually..if those law abiding citizens are gathering on the beach creating a disturbance then yes he can lawfully order them to leave the beach. Yelling profanity at the police, and encouraging people to act unruly, is a breach of the peace. Go to law school before you try to preach law.

Anonymouse

There was no disturbance until the police initiated violence against these two people.

If she was or wasn't on drugs we'll never know for sure. Just because her sister said she wasn't doesn't mean she really wasn't. However, cops need an extensive course on how to deal with people who are under the unfluence of whether it be drugs or alcohol. What I see is a cop surrounded by a crowd of people looking like a fool for not knowing how to control a situation so instead he sets out to intimidate everyone around him by yanking a girl and tossing her to the ground like a rag doll. Also, the security guard should be trying to disperse the crowd of onlookers & yelling for back up instead of choke holding her bf. One girl out of thousands of other potential threats seems petty. Let her run off, what's she gonna do to cops that are men? Have a women cop go after her.

Hamdinger
Hamdinger

I generally support the police and have a great respect for what they do everyday. In fact, I witnessed several officers throughout the weekend putting up with some pretty shitty behavior and they were very professional in their actions. However, this prick is out of line... if a 200 some pound "highly trained" officer needs to body slam a 100 pound girl to get her under control, there is a big fucking problem. This girl was clearly resisting, I get that, but there are other ways to gain compliance. For example, a simple thumb hold would have been effective on this girl and much more acceptable. The body slam and subsequent dragging of the girl was clearly the result of a frustrated, poorly trained, misogynist with a badge that is probably at home jerking off to this video right now. He's lucky that she didn't break her neck when she landed... I can't imagine what he would have done to her if there were no witnesses and cameras around. If this scene doesn't make you sick, you should really rethink your life.

all of you that talk crap deserved to get your a$$ handed to you, those police officers are trying to do there job and you have a bunch of drunk a-holes ensuing a riot, throwing sand and putting those officers life in danger.. let me tell you this, if its between me going home to see my son and putting a hole in your head... I'm pulling the trigger a-holes

Mikesmith07chev
Mikesmith07chev

It's very simple folks, don't resist an officer when you gives you a lawful order. The stupid girl was obviously under arrest, and the officer was trying to keep the girl under control and on the ground while trying to keep his attention on the unruly crowd. If nosy ass people would mind their business instead of getting in everyone else's, stuff like this could be avoided. When police tell you to do something, whether its sit on the floor cause you're under arrest, or leave the beach because you're part of a disturbance, you do it. If not, then suffer the repercussions.

Do you really need to slam a girl that way to get her under control???? I strongly believe that Police at least in Miami abuse of the power the uniform has. And tell me about that wanna be cop security guard!!!! That dumb as is choking a guy outside of the event.... They are the security guards of the event... Their authority or responsibility is limited to the event.... He is no one to be choking a guy just because he is backed up by the police officer. Fucking dumb ass cop and security guard..... That's the reason why people don't respect the cops anymore... Because their abuse of authority!!!

typical scene when you get a bunch of young people that get drunk, take pills, and who know what else and can not handle it. There are always the major Miami Asshole that think they are above the law and start shit up. I love it when the police wins and take down a loud mojon. Respect the police fool- stay out of their business and let them do their job. that girl was totally disrespectful, thinks she entitled, a major jerk. and the guys trying to start a riot need to go back to where ever they came from. I am cuban- so if those guys yelling at the cops in the background were cuban this message is for you. Why did you run from cuba, why didnt you stay in cuba and fight for your country maricon de mierda. Respect America pendejo -respect the law mojon and make something of your self. While in America you are a guest act like one. If you are from another shit country get the fuck out of America you piece of shit-respect the laws in my country (I am a Cuban) who loves America. Those guys that disrespect the police are the first to call them when they are in trouble

Anonymouse

And why are you here, Nelson?

If you like authoritarian thugs so much, why did you leave Cuba in the first place? What, you didn't want to stick around so that Che could have you executed in La Cabaña?

WTF??? Nelson a lot of the ppl there were tourist that came down for either ultra or this event. There were not a lot of Cubans there, I am Cuban-American and I was present at the event and I got a chance to go in. The majority of the ppl there were American, European, local born. Another thing is, is that ppl keep saying kids, this was a 21 and over event. These are grown ass folks. Yes, we should respect the police you are correct, but when the police abuse their powers constantly the citizens lose respect.

The police department was unprepared for this evnt. They put the officers working there and the people attending at risk. Time for new leadership at Miami Beach Police. It is long overdue. Too many bad stories under one chief. Where is John Timoney when we need him?

The girl absolutely has the right to press charges for assault and unlawful force on that officer for slamming her to the ground like that. Police think they are above the law here and its bullshit.. you have no right to push people on a public beach for watching what was going on. I hope those cops are suspended or fired but I doubt either will happen.

WatchingCops
WatchingCops

People get drunk and stupid in South Beach all the time...the cops need to able to handle that in a professional manner without getting all violent against non-voilent drunk and stupid people...that is part of their job and if the cops can't handle themselves in a more professional manner then get another job, period.

rb

Everyone seems to forget that the girl was thrown out of the concert for being disruptive. As you see here she's clearly an idiot, fighting off the cop, resisting arrest, and starting a scene. Just because she's a woman doesn't mean she should receive special treatment, the officer gave her plenty of chances without force.

truthNconsequences
truthNconsequences

The girl resisted arrest because she was fucked up on drugs. The other guy who was held in a headlock interfered with the arrest and had to be subdued. At one point, it appears the officer, who was trying to cuff the drugged out girl who was resisting, thought the blue shirt security guard was struggling with the other guy and went to help so he tossed the girl to the ground. Had she not been drugged out and just accepted getting cuffed as she should have, the officer would not have had to use force. The guy who threw sand went out like a bitch. He tried to be a toughguy and show off for his friends and got arrested and then cried like a bitch as they walked him away. He definitely deserved that.

It's sad that people think it's cool to use the word "nigga" every 4th word out of they're mouth. I also love how at 3:25 in the 3rd video someone says, "Fuck the white cracka". Not one officer there is white you dumb racist fuck.

The bottom line: If you don't respect the law, the law don't respect you. Had all these people respected the officer's requests, things might've ended differently. But, they didn't and acted out which caused a crowd to form which puts the officers in danger. It's lucky things didn't turn out worse because they could have.

There are a lot of white cops that work for the MBPD. Get YOUR facts straight.

LawWatcher

Get a clue truthNconsequences....clear abuse of police powers. There is no reason to get physical with the citizens....where was the crime??? Resisting arrest while not committing an underlying offense is a fictitious charge to justify police abuse. Why not just ask the people to leave or firmly escort them away...why arrest and physically abuse them? There is no reason for the police to behave this way...none whatsoever. I hope the police do this to your wife, sister, daughter and momma...then we'll see what your real opinion is. Throwing the lady to the ground like that...there is NO REASON to have done that...NONE whatsoever.....total abuse...total.

Aol
Aol

If my wife, sister, daughter or momma resisted arrest and didn't do what the cops clearly asked them to do, and then had this happen to them...well it is their own fault. If she would have simply put her hands behind her back we wouldn't even be talking about this right now, and all the other people wouldn't have been arrested.

While the story was compelling, the cinematography and sound were lacking. The acting was not always believeable. The actors lacked conviction.

THERE WAS NO RIOT!! Cops did not let in ticket holders!!! I was there around 5 .... waited in line for 2 HOURS!!! No one was updating us as to when we would be let inside. Hundreds, if not a thousand of us were standing outside the gate PATIENTLY WAITING. After an hour and a half the crowd started chanting "F*ck you, let us in" "All day ticket means all day". We stood there waiting for a response ... NOTHING ... Then everyone said to push towards the gates ... it was no riot by any means ... was not a stampede ... we didn't rush into the place just moved forward a little to get any kind of answer as to when we would be let inside. The crowd pushed towards the gate a second time then finally someone said 10 more minutes we would be allowed in. Another 20 minutes passed by and nothing. We were crammed like sardines under the hot sun with NO WATER and NO EXPLANATIONS. A last time the crowd pushed towards the gates and a police offier started saying to go home that it had reached max capacity, we would receive our refunds in the mail. Someone shouted at an officer something about his mother and officers proceeded to shoot their tazer guns and more came on in ATVs almost running over several onlookers, inlcuding myself. I had to run away to not get tazed. I then left to go buy water at a nearby restaurant and when I came back they still were not letting ticket holders inside. I walked around the tent till 10 p.m. asking officers and guards if I could get in with my legitiamte ticket. Was never able to go in.

Penny

Vicky your account is one of the most accurate I've seen. We were there by 5 waiting for 2 hours like sardines in that line as well. It's very sad that the event planners spent more time being greedy (overbooking) then actually planning this event.

Indyteamheat
Indyteamheat

This is the most accurate account I have read so far. And, for those who choose to stereotype everyone in attendance as being on drugs or alcohol...you really don't know what you are talking about. Some of us actually attend for the music and to see the DJ's. That is why it was so upsetting (after spending LOTS of money to get to Miami, stay in overpriced hotels and eat overpriced food) to not be allowed into a venue you have purchased tickets for back in February. It was also interesting to be told by a police officer that the fire marshal was concerned about there only being TWO exits for 12,000 people...yet they were very busy putting chains with padlocks around every gate in sight....If there were an emergency, good luck getting out of there. I think the promoter is to blame more than the police or the ticket holders. They didn't do their job, which now sheds a bad light on both sides and gives ammunition to those shallow minded individuals who probably weren't even there but think they have the right to say something about this. Unless you were there, your opinion means nothing

Well Said! Hugs not Drugs. I love house music!

I go back to the day when promoters had no clue as to how to stage a music concert.I was at one event when the promoter had maybe three people taking money and tickets.

When the first band started, the entire long line went through an 8 foot chainlink fence like it didn't exist.

My girlfriend and I were probably the only people that got pushed through the fence by the crowd and went back to the ticket booth and paid our admissions. The two cashiers that I saw were already counting out their pay for the day and weren't waiting for the promoter to pay them.

There was an enormous shortage of portapotties. Crap and pee everywhere. The underbrush was covered with underclothes.

Food was short. Water was short. Alcohol was short. Drugs were so competitive that they were practically free.

Other than a few minor problems, a good day.
