Miami-Dade Fire Rescue
Thank God for Valium. Your crazy aunt's favorite pharmaceutical has helped to rescue a dog found in South Miami-Dade that had its head trapped in an abandoned boat cooler for more than a week. Of course, Miami-Dade firefighters deserve the real credit here.

The dog, a 40-pound, mixed breed female, was found with its head stuck in the cooler yesterday afternoon around Southwest 188 Avenue and 134th Street. Judging from her wounds, officials believe she had been trapped for about a week.

In order to calm the dog down, a veterinarian stuck the dog with an IV line of Valium. The drug had a sedative effect on the dog, and workers were able to cut into the cooler.

It's believed that the dog had recently given birth to a litter of puppies, and that the extra body fat she had accumulated during pregnancy had helped to keep her alive. After being rescued, the dog was released to an animal control officer.
