Is George Mason's Jim Larranaga Miami's Next Basketball Coach?
![]() |
Larranaga has spent 14 years coaching at the Colonial Athletic Association school, and it's surprising a school from a bigger conference hasn't tried to lure him away yet. He is the all-time wins leaders for both the school and the conference. He most recently coach the Patriots to a 25-5 season and took them to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
In 2006, he took the Patriots all the way to the final four until they lost to the Florida Gators, the eventual champs. The patriots have been to the NCAA tournament five times in Larranga's 14 years. The 'Canes have also reached the tournament five times in that span, but only once since 2002.
It's unclear though how serious Larranaga is actually interested in making a move to an ACC school or is just possibly trying to angle for a better salary from GMU. CBS Sports reports that Larranga is now Miami's top target.
