Marco Rubio and Bill Nelson Want Feds to Crack Down on Porn

Regulating what America whacks off to has not been a chief concern of the Obama administration. But now a group of 42 senators have sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder complaining that his justice department hasn't been keeping a close enough eye on the mainstream adult pornography business. The group mainly consists of socially conservative Republicans. So of course Marco Rubio signed on, but Bill Nelson and a handful of other Democrats also offered their John Hancock.

Holder's Justice Department has not filed a single new obscenity case anywhere in the country, and has only continued prosecuting a small handful of cases left over from the Bush administration.

Politico notes that usually Democratic administrations tend to prosecute small, niche pornography (you, know that "2 Girls, 1 Cup" type stuff), but the letter asks Holder to also pursuit cases against mainstream adult companies.

"We write to urge the Department of Justice vigorously to enforce federal obscenity laws against major commercial distributors of hardcore adult pornography," says the letter. "We believe it is imperative that the Department, with cooperation by the FBI, investigate and prosecute all major producers and distributors of adult obscenity. We need your leadership."

Though, it's often difficult to charge large pornography companies as they can always claim that since their material is so popular it really shouldn't be considered obscene at all.

It's also interesting that both of Florida's senators signed the bill. They have to be aware of how much of that porn, especially internet-distributed, is produced right here in the state.

Porn is so dangerous!!!!! (probably more dangerous than online poker!)

But don't even think of taking away my right to own a fully automatic assault rifle!! Aren't these the same jackasses that demand the government stays out of our lives? ( unless of course it gets in the way of their Christian conservative values!)

As long as the American people remain apathetic and do nothing our rights will continue to get chopped away one Facist at a time. So long as pornography is performed by consenting adults for the pleasure of adults (and the retarded adults keep it away from) all aspects of children THEN MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS go do something about those bitches using food stamps wearing diamonds and driving a 2011 Escalade

Funny how these idiots preach "government, step aside" when it comes to issues such as welfare, but yet they have no problem trying to stick their rotten oars in our lives when it comes to an issue such as pornography, which is a matter of personal choice for adults. It's all about pushing Christian values on a country that has "separation of church and state" in its Constitution.

Hypocrites, all of them.

where was the gop when Rumsfeld says $2.3 TRILLION are Missing from Pentagon on September 10th 2001?

and where was the gop when

U.S. lost track of $12 billion in Iraq funds

According to a Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report published in October 2007, the U.S. wars in Iraq and Afghanistan could cost taxpayers a total of $2.4 trillion dollars by 2017 when counting the huge interest costs because combat is being financed with borrowed money. The CBO estimated that of the $2.4 trillion long-term price tag for the war, about $1.9 trillion of that would be spent on Iraq, or $6,300 per U.S. citizen

A recent study indicated that the long term health care costs for wounded Iraq war veterans could range from $350 billion to $700 billion

or Bush drug plan?

bush prescription medicare Drug Benefit May Cost $1.2 Trillion

or your friend the oil company?

Oil and Gas Tax Breaks: $2.4 billion a year

come on gop what about GE?

So not only did GE, the highly-profitable recipient of federal contracts and bailout money, not pay taxes, we paid them $3.2 billion

Welfare Tab for Children of Illegal Immigrants Estimatedcost of illegal immigration stands at about $113 billion a year

The transparency changes are far from perfect. The fiscal year 2010 Defense Appropriations Act contained 35 anonymous projects worth $6 billion, or 59 percent of the total pork in the bill. Out of the 9,129 projects in the 2010 Congressional Pig Book there were 9,048 requested projects worth $10 billion and 81 anonymous projects worth $6.5 billion.

It's nice to see that, in the wake of massive unemployment, a recession, and the imminent shutdown of the government, that the Senate can still find time to stick their snouts in what people watch. Fuck these assholes.

Job creation. Taxes. What's the problem? And when the First Lady suggested that maybe we should eat food that is better for us, the neo-cons went off. So how is looking at porn any less of a freedom?
