Miami-Dade Police Sergeant Assaulted Girlfriend Because She Wouldn't Hold His Hand
![]() |
Ruiz, who makes more than $100,000 a year working for the county, was attending the March 27 Heat matchup against the Houston Rockets. His date refused to hold his hand at the game, and Ruiz was so infuriated he refused to give her a ride back to his home.
So the woman was forced to take a cab more than 30 miles back to the house.
When she arrived, Ruiz was waiting with a semiautomatic pistol. He loaded the gun and made the woman pack her bags.
When she tried to call 911, Ruiz allegedly knocked the phone out of her hand and dumped the contents of her luggage.
Ruiz then grabbed the woman by her hair and dragged her around the house.
She was able to flee to a closet and dial 911. By that time, though, Ruiz had brought out his AR-15 assault rifle. He eventually forced the woman out of the house before BSO deputies arrived and arrested him.
Ruiz has been relieved of duty with pay.
