Special Election for Mayor Officially Set for May 24
Commissioner Natacha Seijas was ousted along with Alvarez last month, so her seat will be up for grabs (former Hialeah commissioner and state lawmaker Steve Bovo is the front runner). Though if commissioner Carlos Giminez follows through on his plan to run for Mayor himself, his seat could also be up for grabs during the election.
Anyone deciding to run for mayor will have until tomorrow at 5 p.m. to get their paperwork in.
If any of the races call for a run-off that will be held on June 28.
Several ballots aimed at charter reform were also placed on the ballot earlier, but according to Naked Politics, "Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz said he would send a memo to the others asking for a meeting -- perhaps Wednesday -- to remove all the amendments from the ballot, saying the measures were placed on the ballot in a rush."
