Ten-Year-Old Florida Boy Commits Suicide After Being Sent to Room

A little after 5 p.m. yesterday, the parents of 10-year-old Tyriq Ammons sent him to his room for misbehaving. Forty-five minutes later, his mother went to check on him. She opened the door to find her son hanging from a noose fashioned out of a videogame controller. Tampa Police are investigating the incident as a possible suicide.

After the shocking discovery, the mother summoned a neighbor, who began performing chest compressions to try to revive the boy. Police arrived soon after and began CPR, but he never regained consciousness. Tampa Fire Rescue rushed the child to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Little else has been released about the case, including any possible mental health problems the boy might have had. Police say that so far the investigation and autopsy point to suicide.

Suicide at such a young age is very rare but not unheard of. Eleven 10-year-olds committed suicide in 2007, the most recent year for which statistics are available, according to the CDC.

From a dad, What a horrible story. No person knows what it is like to love your child, until you have them. I can't tell you where the love comes from (its well hidden inside you) but it will become evident after holding and taking care of your child. To "Im Just Saying" - you probably don't have a child to know what feelings are evoked in a parent by this story. "Taurusbybirth" is probably a parent. Understand that a good quiet person who becomes a parent can easily become a killer over defense of their child. Trust me, I could viciously slit your throat for harming my child, put my entire future and safety on the line, to defend my child. Parents understand this about each other. Don't ever f*** with someone kid.It would do you better to not make a negative remark about a story like this, or to a blogger remarking on your insensitivity.

The throat of the person you'd slit has a family too. You can't honestly say it's okay to viciously slit someone's throat over the harm of them, just saying. If you're admitting it's irrational due to love ... ok I guess ... If that scenario ever happens, both parties are just wrong.
