Chlamydia and Syphilis on the Rise Amongst South Florida Seniors

​News flash: old people still like to bone. Unsurprisingly, as people who came of age in the wild child, free love era of the '60s and early '70s start to near their golden years the rates of new STD infections amongst the old is skyrocketing. In fact, cases of chlamydia and syphilis amongst those 55 or older have rocketed 60 percent since 2005 in South Florida.

The report comes from The Orlando Sentinel, which says that the average rate for increases in those diseases amongst those at or nearing retirement age was up 43 percent nationally. In areas with large retirement populations, like South Florida, that number was even higher.

We shouldn't be surprised that seniors are boning in the town that the fictional Blanche Devereaux once called home. The reasons are fairly obvious. Viagra lets men keep on plowing well into their later years. That generation also didn't grow up in a time when safe-sex messages were as ubiquitous as those aimed at today's youth. The worry of pregnancy is also lowered.

Come on old people. You wrap your living room furniture in plastic. You could at least do the same for your Viagra-addled penises!
