Father of Street-Wandering Hialeah Toddler May Not Always Obey The Law

As it turns out, a Hialeah father who was arrested yesterday when his bruised toddler was found wandering down 74th Street alone might not be a very nice guy.

Thirty-one-year-old Carlos Aybar Oliveras is now in jail on $20,000 bond, WSVN reports, and the girl's mother, Jessica Pinon, 23, is on house arrest after passers-by called police at about 9:30 yesterday morning to report that a small child was in the road.

Pinon and Oliveras were both charged with neglect, and Oliveras picked up an additional charge of child abuse after he admitted that he hit his daughter with a belt before she escaped, according to Hialeah Police Det. Eddie Rodriguez.

Oliveras isn't quite a model citizen: He has a long history of shenanigans, including a stint on probation in 2005 after being caught trying to buy cocaine, then a conviction for petit theft in February 2006.

He finally changed his ways in 2006, when, instead of getting high and stealing something, he violated his probation, resisted arrest and led police on a high-speed chase. And in another totally unexpected twist, his daughter is now in the custody of the Department of Children and Families.

There's nothing funny about a bruised toddler walking down the road alone "looking for a new father." This isn't family guy

I don't think the writer is making light of child abuse at all, but I'll edit it so this doesn't turn into a flame war.
