Jeb Bush Endorses Julio Robaina for Miami-Dade Mayor

There have been several endorsements thrown around in the race for Miami-Dade's next mayor, but few national figures have weighted in. Today former Gov. Jeb Bush, a Miami-Dade resident, put his support behind former Hialeah Mayor Julio Robaina. Though county politics is nonpartisan, it comes as little surprise that Robaina has already established himself as the favorite candidate of many Dade Republicans.

Here's the endorsement on Robaina's website:
"Julio has a proven track record of cutting government waste and protecting our tax dollars," said Bush. "That's the type of leadership we need to reform county government, and I encourage you to join me in voting for Julio Robaina to be our next Mayor of Miami-Dade County.

"I am deeply grateful to Governor Bush for his endorsement and his support for our plan to reform County Hall," said Robaina, who is currently the Mayor of Hialeah. "I am determined to put a stop to wasteful spending in county government, and I appreciate Governor Bush's help in spreading my campaign's ideas for genuine reform to voters across Miami-Dade County."
Robainia has also secured the endorsement of the Republican-leaning Latin Builders Association.

We can't imagine there'll be another endorsement from such a high-profile figure as Bush, so this might be the grand prize in this race as far as endorsements go.

But Robaina's increasing support from Republicans might put off voters who are registered as Democrats and independents. However, Robaina's two main rivals, Marcello Llorente (a former Republican state senator) and Commissioner Carlos Gimenez (whose rhetoric errs right), might not be in a position to better capture those votes.

Indeed he has already proven to have leadership qualifications while legislator. He's got my vote. At least he's interested in working to repeal the 2010-2011 Alvarez property tax increases!!!I don't need another government stealing...

My research reveals two worthy candidates, Mr. Pepe Cancio and Dr. Farid Khavari, but I had to search out the campaign details on these men on my own. These two candidates are the only two that have experience in building economies and creating jobs and it is economy builders and job creators that we voters are looking for.

The common approach to Mr. Canico by the local media is that he is a substitute commissioner or a chair warmer, when in fact he is a very successful businessman, hires hundreds of people, brings over 150 million dollars into the economy, has been voted Entrepreneur of the year by the LBA and yes even stepped up as commissioner when called upon.

Ask the average voter (Those not media employed ) and they will tell you that jobs, the economy, energy costs, lack of financing, lack of commerce, the pocket picking property taxes and the amount of people losing their homes are the issues of devastating concern. I have to find on my own that we have an economist in our community that has presented a wonderful plan for economic recovery. Dr. Farid Khavari

The only thing that the media told me about Dr. Khavari was that he had an unsuccessful run for Governor and that is true, but what does that have to do with anything of importance? It turns out that all of Florida would be doing better had he won and he might have won if we had a media that was looking to better the communities that they claim to serve.

He has proposed creating a citizens owned bank where the public owns their own debt, low interest loans would be available for refinancing homes, solar energy conversion loans for homes, businesses and government buildings and some of the profits would fund the new tightly efficient budget of the county government, eliminating the need to extort property taxes from the people that own this county.

I have to learn on my own that when interest is paid to a citizen owned bank, it does not leave the local economy, in fact it would stay in circulation here to further stimulate economic growth and not to fund wall street bonuses.

Amazing.... Your kidding right? First off Jeb Bush was never president. Maybe the president of his HOA but thats it.. Does Bush know that Julio is affiliated with known criminal activites.. ILLEGAL GAMBLING??? Does Bush know that Julio Raised taxes twice and also raised the water rates when there was no fiscal crisis??? Does BUsh know that Julio cut his salary only 3% while employees took upto 30% cuts?? By the way. That 3% was only on half his salary, not the full 286,000.00 HOW SAD.. Does Bush know that the 1100 employees, most of those are his own citizens, are losing evrything they have and truly cannot feed their families?? Does Bush know that Julio is in the process of building a 166 million dollar NEEDLESS water palnt when his own city is negeleted.. Does BUSH know that the owners of that land are Julios former and current business partners and stand to make alot of money when the NEEDLESS waterplant is finished?? Does BUSH know that the Mayor he has backed is clearly involved in LOAN SHARKING, MORTGAGE FRAUD, ILLEGAL GAMBLING, and not PAYING TAXES on property he owns????DOES BUSH KNOW THESE THINGS???? Hard to believe anyone would back this man for anything but JAIL.....

"Marcello Llorente (a former Republican state senator)"

Marcelo (spelled with ONE L) was a state representative, not senator.

Kyle, stay away from serious politics and go back to writing about how you were all bitchy ass awestruck when Obama's motorcade drove past you.

Anyone endorsed by the LBA is certainly no friend to the taxpayers and environmentalists. I hold more respect for used car salesmen than I do for Jeb Bush so it figures he would endorse Robaina.

Carlos Gimenez has my support and my vote. He has a proven record of trying to protect the taxpayers of this county, unlike those who only talk a good game with no commitment to follow through on their promises.

I completely agree. Mr. Cancio has a proven record of stimulating economic growth, creating jobs and serving his community when needed. Though he may not be as popular (endorsed and supported by crooked politicians) he is a honest, hardworking man who has an unbelievable love for this community. As for the "chair warmer" comments made by some people-- I personally want the candidate that will not pursue re-election in 2012. I want a candidate that has no motivation to tamper with or influence people from the inside. This election is for an interim mayor -- not one who will get into office and use his influence to start campaigning for the next election because his name is placed on the door. Cancio has repeatedly said that he, nor any of his children, will run for mayor in 2012. I will be voting for Pepe Cancio.

Dr. Khavai has presented several initiatives that will create jobs, which will create commerce, which will create more jobs ect.. Initial figures are 150,000 new good paying private sector jobs. He has presented job creating initiatives that will protect us from rising energy costs, dependence on foreign oil and from experiencing the devastation of nuclear fallout that will plague Japan for decades.

But I pay for a newspaper and read that Mr. Degenerate Jail Bird might be a good choice or I could choose the FBI's most likely or how about the guy that helped bring me the current mess, he could move to a higher office if I would like or I could have a young real estate attorney that turned politician to keep from having to work in a declined real estate market

North Dakota took it on themselves to create a citizen owned bank decades ago because they could see the fallacy of being in debt to out of town robber barons and having their money leave their community. Today they have the strongest economy, lowest unemployment and fewer foreclosures than any other state and are in far better shape than Florida because of it.

The way I see it, the story is we have two fine candidates to choose from and several others playing the system. See for yourself by visting their websites and let's start fixing this mess.

I think that we should squish these two together and clone super mayors to sell to other cities.

But I could be happy with either
