Jonathan Labrada Arrested in Mexico a Year After Murder in a Miami Bar
Police still don't know what exactly caused Labrada to enter the bar and incite violence, but after his threat, 39-year-old Diaz did his job and confronted Labrada. The ensuing argument turned deadly when Labrada shot Diaz and fled.
Both America's Most Wanted and locally produced Crime Stopper Miami ran segments on the murder, and large billboards soliciting tips were put up in Miami with Labrada's picture.
According to America's Most Wanted, those billboards may have lead to information that lead to the suspect's location.
After over a year on the run, Labrada was finally arrested at 6:30 a.m. this morning in an apartment in Matamoros, Mexico. The medium sized city is located near the Texas-Mexico border.
"I'm very excited because this guy thought he was smarter than everyone else," Sgt. Eunice Cooper of Miami Police Department told AMW. "I think he got real confident thinking he 'out smarted' us. But the perseverance and the persistence of everyone -- the U.S. Marshals Service, America's Most Wanted, and the Miami Police-- never stopped."
