LeBron James Finally Apologizes to Cleveland

Categories: Sports
It was a long time coming, but LeBron James finally apologized to the city of Cleveland last night after the Miami Heat beat the Boston Celtics in round two of the playoffs. James must have been in a bittersweet mood after vanquishing the Celtics. Sure, he's made it to the conference finals a couple times with the Cavaliers, but he's never been on a team that beat Boston in the playoffs.

"Everything went through my mind at that point. Finally getting over this hump against this team. Everything I went through this summer, with the decision and deciding to come down here to be a part of this team...and all the backlash I got from it," said during a post conference interview.

"I knew deep down in my heart, as much as I loved my teammates back in Cleveland and as much as I loved home, I knew I couldn't do it by myself against that team," he continued.

"The way it panned out with all the friends and family and the fans back home, I apologize for the way it happened," he said.

"I knew this opportunity was once in a lifetime. To be able to come down here and pair with two guys and this organization -- in order for me to move on with my career, that team that we just defeated, we had to go through them."

Even we'll admit that was a long time coming. We're glad he's at least come to a point where he can own up to some of his PR mistakes.

Though, we would like to see him issue a big thank you to South Florida. When everyone else in the country hated him, we were there to embrace him. Not that it was hard, but there's still something a little foreign about James and Chris Bosh. We know that Dwyane Wade knows he's playing for the city of Miami, and we'd like to start seeing that same 305 fire in James.

I'll cheer these guys when they do something that actually furthers society.  We should be cheering cancer researchers and geneticists and others like them who actually make the world a better place.

This country cheers individuals that are great at whatever they do. That's why the NBA is on TV, because Lebron and the other PRO players are great at basketball.  It's as simple as that.  If you're so concerned and feel that strongly about the progression of science and that anything other than science is useless, I have 2 questions to ask you:

1. Why did you read this article (and make a comment) because clearly it's not in the science section?

2. Did you know Lebron donated $3 MILLION DOLLARS to charity from advertisements from The Decision TV special and because of that, the BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF  CLEVELAND got $160,000 dollars AND new computers and Nike equipment?

Obviously not. In my book that furthers society and makes the world a better place. You don't need to be a scientist to see that.

I don't get it.  Why does anyone think that pro sports are anything other than a business.  Loyalty is only for fans, certainly not for the owners or players.

Easy to pretend to be magnanimous when you just had a big victory..his true character is more accurately portrayed in his poor sportsmanship when he loses....

Dude, most of us understood you were going to leave and why and while we were unhappy about that, had you just left and not dumped us on national TV using children as PR human shields? We probably would still have respected you and continued to be your biggest fans.  But the way you did the whole thing?  Nah...still don't forgive you.  That whole mess was just beyond the pale and your fans here deserved better.

I am pretty sure no athlete has ever had a whole show dedicated to making a decision as to where to play. Doing that ensures that his legacy will forever be tarnished - unless someone does something even more stupid, if that's even possible. Bear in mind that he went from one of the most loved to most hated overnight. Hes an insulated, emotionally fragile child for sure. That being said, I don't fault him for leaving - it's a superstar league and he wasn't going to win anything with cleveland. Seriously, no one in his entourage thought this was a bad idea? No one? Seriously?

Has any owner apologized for trading a player and destroying a team? No! The Celtics management trading Perkins is the reason the team got eliminated. It's business when they do it but a PR mistake when a player does it! Lebron owes the city of Cleveland nothing. He gave them 7 years of great basketball. He didn't break a contract by leaving early. He saw the writing on the wall and moved on. Dan Gilbert didn't surround Lebron with any talent and when he leaves, tries to blame him for everything instead of pointing the finger at his own greed. That's why the CAVS went 17-63! The media has generated this fake "Lebron hate" like the world is against Lebron and he betrayed Cleveland. Winners surround themselves with other winners. Lebron did the same thing. Best of luck Miami at proving the haters wrong.

No Gabe hate to say it but your wrong, winners make others around them winners. Jordan never left chicago to surround himself with other winners. Jordan  made every player he played with better. It took him 7 years to win his first NBA championship. There is a reason why Dan Gilbert couldn't put more talent around lebron and that reason was lebron. He wouldn't sign a long contract to stretch the money out. If he had signed a 7 year deal instead of that 3 year deal when his first contract was up, shaq would have been in cleveland in 2007 when they faced the spurs in the finals and that game would have had completely different dynamics. You can look that up too, it was a well known fact the cavs were chasing shaq and then 2 years later (after injuries and fall off in play) they end up with him. To add more to this the heat still havent won as many regular season games as the cavs did either, how do you explain that?

First of all can the 80's had dynasty ball clubs that are exactly like today. The Lakers won 5 times in the 80's and the Celtics won 3 times. The Philadelphia 76ers with Julius Erving (Hall of Fame), Moses Malone (Hall of Fame) and Maurice Cheeks (Future Hall of Famer) won in 1983 and the Detroit Pistons with Isiah Thomas (Hall of Fame), Adrian Dantley (Hall of Fame), Joe Dumars (Hall of Fame), Dennis Rodman (Hall of Fame) and Bill Laimbeer (Future Hall of Famer) won in 1989. See a pattern here? All of these ball clubs had ESTABLISHED Hall of Fame talent. All of these ball clubs CONSISTENTLY BEAT MICHAEL JORDAN BY HIMSELF!  These ball clubs would let Michael do whatever he wanted because they knew they could shut the rest of the team down. That's why when Jordan scored 63 points against Boston in the 86 playoffs, THEY STILL LOST!  Michael didn't start winning until Chicago SURROUNDED HIM with Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant.  The Bulls also started winning when the dynasty clubs like Boston and LA were on the downslope of their runs. What I don't like is how people act as if Michael Jordan was a one man machine that did everything for the Bulls with no help. His career points per game was 30.1 ppg. That means the rest of the team had to do something to win. What I also don't like is how people blame Lebron for the club not adding any significant talent to the team. The Lebron blame game had become the answer for every Cavalier mistake and it's getting old. You must be from Cleveland. Give me a break.

Queen James will always be a second tier player. No matter how many games or rings he might win he will never be a Jordan, Chamberlin or Magic.Lack of true leadership is why Queen couldn't lead his team. Oh, how's the whole James family working out for the dade county area.....Good luck with them, you've only seen the begining of that circus.

How is a 7 time All-Star, 2 time MVP, 2 Time All-Star MVP, Scoring Champion, Rookie of the Year, and Gold Olympic Winner a Second Tier player? I shouldn't have even responded to this ridiculous claim but I had to. How can a second tier player beat a team of 4 Hall of famers, and Rondo? Did you not watch Lebron take over the game and score ALL 10 POINTS to eliminate the Celtics? Jordan, Chamberlain and Magic all played with Hall of Famers. That argument is invalid. Jordan played with Scottie Pippen (arguably the greatest Forward of All Time), Dennis Rodman (arguably the greatest rebounder of All Time) and Robert Parrish ('97). Chamberlain played with Hall of Famers Hal Greer, Elgin Baylor, and Jerry West (NBA logo). Magic had Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (arguably the greatest center of all time), James Worthy and Bob McAdoo. I'm not even going to add the solid role players that each of these teams had that made them champions. Look at the facts. Lebron is leading the Heat in the playoffs averaging 26.1 ppg! Lebron had an MVP SEASON AGAIN this year but Rose had a great year in his own right. You can't win a championship on your own. Name a team in the past 30 years that didn't have multiple Hall of Famers on the team?

Boston? Yes

Philadelphia? Yes

Lakers? Yes

Detroit? Yes

Chicago? Yes

Houston? Yes

San Antonio? Yes

Miami? Yes

You can't. You sir are a hater!
