Rick Scott Has a Second Roof for His Mansion in Storage in Case of a Hurricane

scottscary.jpg
Most Floridians prepare for hurricane season by stocking up on plywood and canned goods. Our millionaire governor, Rick Scott, has prepared by having a second roof for his Naples mansion placed in storage in case the original gets blown away. Out of touch much?

Scott spoke this weekend at the Governor's Hurricane Conference at the Broward County Convention Center and informed everyone about his second roof.

Apparently the Illinois native wasn't fully aware of the destructive forces of a hurricane when one hit his home in either 2004 or 2005 (he can't recall which) and his $9.2 million mansion lost about a third of the roofing tiles.

Informed that whatever fancy tile was used on the original roof was no longer in production, Scott, who is worth upward of $200 million, purchased enough tiles for a second roof and put them in storage.

How much did that cost? "Expensive," was all he said.

So just remember: Whenever this guy talks about drug-testing welfare recipients, cutting back unemployment benefits, and trying to slash public unions, it's coming from a man so rich that he has a second roof stashed in storage.

Two key traits of a sociopath: lack of a conscience (e.g., healthcare fraud) and devoid of empathy (e.g., whatever he does).

That's a good precautionary move, but Governor Scott seems to need to get his priorities straight if he's spending so much time concerned about his fancy roof tiling when there are real problems in Florida that should be dealt with.

Maybe he can make a loan to those of us that don't have the money to buy a second roof. I have to say that this man does not understand how the rest of us live. He wants to run for president, go ahead and get the hell out of Florida.

And do you know how he GOT that rich?  By cheating sick people.  And do you know how many times he pleaded the 5th when asked about it?  75.  And do you know how much of his 300 million dollar compensation he got to keep after his company paid 1.4 BILLION in criminal and civil fines for Medicare fraud?  ALL OF IT.

It's not that he's able to afford a second roof that's disgusting -  that's fine.  Good for him.  Whatever he does with his money is his business.  The point of this article is at the end, when it says: "So just remember: Whenever this guy talks about drug-testing welfare recipients, cutting back unemployment benefits, and trying to slash public unions, it's coming from a man so rich that he has a second roof stashed in storage."  The point is, he doesn't know what it's like to struggle.  He doesn't understand the plight of the working man or the single parent raising a family on little to no income.

"Rick Scott was born in Bloomington, Illinois, and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, where his father was a truck driver and his mother worked as a clerk at J.C. Penney, among other jobs."

Yeah, he sounds like a real silver-spooner.

He is so out of touch & only cares about his millionare freinds & how he can get them richer on the backs of the working middle income folks. Any one who voted for this idiot should perhaps sit out the next election. Lets get to work getting rid of this clown !!!

He did buy his current job for $75,000,000. Why is this a surprise?

Can someone who can afford a spare roof really understand the impact of a 3% pay cut on top of 4 years with no raises, while gas, helath care and food prices continue to climb?

Great going Prick Scott. Glad you have a second roof to put over your head. Thanks to you and your policies I'll be losing the only roof I have over my head. I'm ashamed to admit I grew up in Naples. Job creation my ass. You made both of my master's degrees worthless. Idiot!

dogger1230

What degrees do you have that you can't afford a roof over your head?  Did you buy a home that you could barely afford in a good economy?  Why do you care if Scott has extra tile?   So what?  Scott's been in office for a few months, Obama is in his third year.  Where's all that hope and change??   If you think it's bad now, wait until the chickens come home to roost and we actually have to do something about the debt of this country.

Stop watching Fox for all your information !!!! Are you rich !!!! or is it true that the main goal of the teabagger's is to turn the middle & lower class against each other, looks like they are winning with people like you ...

Dogger you sound more like the hater. I hate the fact that the rich keep getting richer at the expense of the middle class. I've worked hard all my life for what I have nobody gave me anything. I am getting close to retirement now and will not be able to without social security and medicare which I have paid into all my working life. I do resent the fact that Republicans in the house want to end these programs so you can have your tax breaks. This doesn't sound much like shared sacrifice to me.

See, Dana, you are just a hater.  You accuse the Tea Party of turning people against one another, but you are the one using the derogatory language.   Am I rich?  Not as rich as I was a few years ago and not as rich as I'd like to be.  Hard work used to pay off in this country.  I'm not going to apologize for getting a good education and working hard to be where I am today.  But I'm not working hard to support a welfare recipient who somehow finds a way to buy drugs, cigarettes and beer.  People make choices and choices have consequences.  I'm not responsible for peoples lousy choices.  If you want a good job, then work hard and get the skills required to do the job.  I know it's easier to just sit around cussing, feeling sorry for yourselves, and blaming others, but you are the only one who can change your life.  Waiting for any politician to make your life better is stupid.  Politicians, no matter what party, don't care about you.  They only care about the big donors who help get them elected.  That's the sad truth.

Bush added more to the debt than all the presidents before him and it was on his watch that the economy tanked.

dogger1230

Maybe you should look at the debt figures when Bush left office and now.  Obama added as much to the debt in his first year as Bush did in 8.  I'm not defending Bush, he made some major mistakes.  Giving tax cuts so that 50% of the people in this country don't pay taxes at all and prescription drug plan are some of his worst.  Sorry, but hating Bush isn't the answer to all the worlds problems.  If hating the successful and rich in this country solved all your problems, you probably wouldn't be a hater right now.

Brilliant idea. If someone has the money that is exactly what they should do. No problem matching tile. He has a new set. The tile company made a 2nd sale and a warehouse landlord gets to rent space.

We're not talking about 'someone'. We're talking about the man in charge of the common person's well being. We're talking about the supposed 'servant' of the people of this state. Money has nothing to do with it. Its the fact that this person would boast about such a purchase, when he's cutting the livelihoods of Florida workers. This simply shows how out of touch he is with the common taxpayer. Idiots like you that defend such behavior, are why we are where we are as a state and with this person at the helm.
