Dolphins May Pursue Vince Young

Assuming there even is an NFL season this year (even one that is only eight games long), the Miami Dolphins will find themselves once again in a tough quarterback situation. There's been murmurs about signing a free agent all off-season, and the latest rumors center around the Tennessee Titan's Vince Young.

With Chad Pennington not coming back, that leaves the hopes of the franchise squarely on Chad Henne's robotic shoulders. So, The Miami Herald reports that Dolphins brass may sign Young once the labor dispute has been adverted. The former Longhorn has had a notoriously spotty NFL career, but did have a solid, though not spectacular, season with the Titans last year.

Though, the Dolphins seem to be worried about Young's maturity level and how he would handle being Henne's back-up.

From The Herald:
(One) official who has spoken with the Dolphins said there's concern about whether Young would be happy as a backup if Chad Henne beat him out. Remember, Young wasn't happy when he lost his job in Tennessee. Speaking about no one specifically, Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland said, 'You can't guess about' a quarterback's 'accountability and dependability.' Those have been issues with Young."
Of course we want to see a full NFL season this year as much as anyone, but sometimes, in our deepest darkest hours of pondering the state of the Miami Dolphins, we think that the one upside of a missed season is the extra time the Fins would have to get their house and roster in order.

Why not? He's a free agent basically trying to get another chance in the game. He's young, athletic and ought to get a look see. There may be some sets they can run to take advantage of his skills.  In any event Henne needs some veteran competition and Young would not be a horrible back up.  It's all about cost. Do the Fins want to trade a high pick or player(s) to get Kolb, Palmer or do they want to try and sign a usable free agent and save the players/picks?  Bulger, Hasselbeck and McNabb are all older and I doubt any better at this stage than Henne. Some of the others mentioned like Moore of Carolina or Quinn of Denver-gimme a break!  I'd take Henne or Thigpen over those 2 any day.

Woah!!!! Vince Young Back Up For Chad Henne Are You A Fool, I have no clue why y'all think chad henne is going to turn into Tom Brady so what they both went to Michigan it didn't take tom this long. Sorry to say and I'm a die hard dolphins some of y'all thoughts is the reason we have been garbage since the end of the 80's, Be serious you bring in Vince Young he has to start he way more of a threat then Chad and he's a comeback QB so if you plan on competing with the Jets & Patriots for playoffs spots it's time 4 the Young Show!!!!!!!

I would lean towards Orton first, but how would that cost? Young can be had for free and has the most risk for reward and failure. Young is still young and has all the tools to be a NFL QB. He has a great win / loss record also. He has proven in Tennessee that he can lead late game winning drives. Maybe this guy just needs a change of scenery? If he gets his act together with the Dolphins then they are automatic playoff contenders. The only thing the Dolphins are missing is a solid QB.

I agree this guy has all the tools maybe a fresh start somewhere else will help.If he put his heart into playing football he could be an all pro for a very long time he is worth the risk .

I think is a smart move, bringing Vince Young to challenge Henne in the Quaterback position. Chad Henne needs someone to show him, he can loose his job!!!!!!!!! Go Dolphins!!!!!!!! Go Dolphins!!!!!!!

There is no doubt that Henne has not shown anything as a quarterback, but Young has shown that he is a trainwreck.  I'd rather bring Fiedler back.

Miami has no leadership at all, the right hand does not know what the left is doing. Picking up Vince Young is a great move if you plan to start him, what sense does it make for him to back-up Henne who is not the answer at QB.

Recall, Vick started as a backup, too, and we all know how that went.

I'm not saying that Vince Young is not a great quarterback, but I don't see him as being any better than Chad Henne and we really don't know Hene's up-side yet, I HOPE?

Nah, we've seen it. He's had three seasons leading this team. He's not going to learn any more football.

He has as much talent as he appears to have, which is the heart of our problem. Nice guy, perhaps, but not a winner.

Just a comment, he was not the starter in 2008, nor the starter for the first 3 games of 2009. He came in and went 7-6 in 2009 not so great in 2010. One more season is needed to evaluate his starting ability.
