Hurricanes Have Eighth Best 2012 Recruiting Class, So Far

You know what we could use right now? Some positive sports news on this, the Miami sports fans' somber morning of despair. Thankfully, things are looking up for that team that originally brought this town a boastful, brash, and talent-rich line up that inspired so, so much hatred. Yes, the Miami Hurricanes have the eighth best recruiting class of 2012 according to ESPN.com.

In just a few months, new coach Al Golden was able to hold together a solid, though not outstanding, 2011 recruiting class. It made us wonder what he could do with a full year to actually recruit, and it appears that so far things are off to a good start.

ESPN.com ranked Miami as the eighth best recruiting class so far for 2012. The 'Canes have 15 recruits. Five of which are from the ESPN 150. Though they haven't nabbed any 5-star talent yet, the 'Canes do have commitments from six 4-star recruits.

We, however, aren't all that happy that Florida State sits on the list at number two, while Florida is at five.

Basically, it's back to recruiting business as usual in Coral Gables. The 'Canes topped ESPN's list in 2008, finished 7th in 2009 and 13th in 2010. Our 2011 class didn't rank, but that's understandable given the coaching shake up.

Truth is, though, recruiting has never been Miami's major problem. Let's hope Golden can do what Randy Shannon couldn't and actually make something out of all that raw talent. Last night was a reminder that all the talent in the world doesn't necessarily equal championships. It takes a while for teams to develop, but in the case of both the Heat and Hurricanes, there's certainly more than enough talent there to build an eventual winner.
