Star Gazer, originally known as Star Hustler, premiered on local Miami public television in 1976, and was syndicated nationally on various PBS station beginning in 1985. Horkheimer starred in 1,708 episodes of the minute-long series and continued hosting up until his death.
The program has been guest hosted by various other astronomers since Horkheimer's passing, but WPBT has picked Regas and Albury as Horkheimer's permanent replacements.
Dean Regas is the outreach astronomer at the Cincinnati Observatory and has hosted many episodes during the transition period. James Albury, Coordinator of the Kika Silva Planetarium at Santa Fe College in Gainseville, also hosted the program for the month of April.
The pair will take over permanent hosting duties starting on October 4.
