Man Hides Urban Beach Weekend Shooting Video From Investigators in His Mouth

Raymond Herisse was killed in an early-morning police shootout on Memorial Day.
Questions surrounding police conduct in two Memorial Day shootings are growing by the day, most recently fueled by a report in the Miami Herald that Miami Beach police captured a couple at gunpoint and smashed the man's cell phone after he was spotted using it to film police killing 22-year-old Raymond Herisse, who reportedly tried to run down police with his car.

The only reason the video wasn't taken from him, the man said, was that he was hiding his phone's SIM card in his mouth during questioning.

The man, 35-year-old Narces Benoit, said police "put guns to our heads and threw us to the ground," told him "you want to be [expletive] paparazzi?" then smashed the phone. The couple was then handcuffed and put with other bound witnesses. The man said he was uncuffed when a second police shooting broke out several blocks away, which gave him the chance to hide the phone's memory card. The suspect in the second shooting was arrested without injury.

Benoit showed the video to a Herald reporter, but said he was considering selling it to a website instead of releasing it. The video is reportedly from close enough range "to see some officers' faces and individual muzzle flashes" from the 100-plus shots fired at Herisse, who police say "almost struck" five officers with his car.

A gun was found in Herisse's car three days after the shooting; police said it took that long to find because they needed legal approval to search the car; they had not said anything about being unable to search until after the gun was found.

Some residents have demanded an end to Urban Beach Weekend, though Miami Beach Mayor Matti Herrera Bower said Tuesday there is little the city can do to stop it. A protest at Miami Beach City Hall is planned for Friday at 6 p.m.

To all of you defending the innocent, pobrecitos of the MPD...

Didn't one of your guys just get fired for drunkenly running over two people on the beach, tossing another unauthorized passenger off the back, yelling "Papi go get some help" before driving off into the night, all with no lights on. Then have the other officers that arrived on the scene try to cover it up?

My father was shot and killed by a police officer for not heeding his demand to stop while driving out of a grocery store parking lot.  My father had not committed any crime and it took three years to get even his pension as settlement for his death.

The cop that killed him never served a day behind bars.

I want to know why in this blog that it is stating it took them 3 days to find the gun yet, in the other report I had read it was stating they had said it wasn't on their priority list on searching the car more of badgering witnesses and gathering evidence....Why would you cops be so eager to put a death under your belt, and under horrible circumstances...you know that wasn't needed force. Racist power hungry demons

Your experience, Tom, cannot be extrapolated to everyone's experience. Just as my experience can't be held as an example to everyone else's. I can tell you that I'm not a fan of Memorial Day weekend in Miami Beach. I've lived there from 1986 through 2008, from 4th and Washington to Biscayne Point, so I've seen the Beach's transformation over that time from many vantage points. My experience has been one of cops being extremely belligerent. I have been stopped and questioned, even cuffed, many times because Miami Beach police commonly overstep their bounds. That so many shots were fired in this manner presented a danger to the public. That they cuffed and manhandled bystanders because they had video and/or photos of their actions is an affront to law-abiding citizens and guests of this country. A THUG Cop may not have gunned you down, Tom, but he is certainly hammering away at your rights, one trigger-pull at a time.

What?
What?

I don't think a SIM card stores video.  Maybe he put a memory card in his mouth?

I read what it seem to be. why does the officer PUT a gun to his head just cause he was filming what appear at the scene. what if the gun goes off would that be another excuse from the officer. I tell there is to way too much corruption with the city dept.

What are the "progressives" going to do when no one trembles anymore at the thought of being called a "racist"? It is their only weapon! Wake up to reality. Reality is racist. Nature itself is completely racist from top to bottom. Absolutely everything about animal life on Earth is "racist". Face the cold hard facts of life, you fact-denying, evolution-denying "progressive" faith-based religious fanatics!

I think your right it is up to us to end this. American Black people are the most ignorant people in the world. They kill each other and then have the nerve to get upset when a white  police officer kills one of them. Well too bad. I am black American and I would be afraid to walk on the street at night with black people on the same side. I am more afraid of getting killed by a Nigger then a Police. Because it shows that almost every black homicide is committed by Blacks. They should protest in front of all those stupid people who kill other brothers. Never call me Brother, call me enemy as most Blacks hate each other. It will never change.

White police officers in Miami Beach?! Really? the majority are Latinos... but that's not even the issue, the corruption is!  The fact that these officers have so much power and absolutely no independent oversight allows officers to be obnoxious and plain dangerous to citizens.  Much more dangerous than any criminal, since the officers and their union built legal walls that protect them from pretty much anything.  It's very pathetic that the citizens of Miami beach allow this to happen on their account, because when police is sued, it's the taxpayers who pay the bill.  This police department is known for chronic unethical behaviors towards gays and now blacks. and this city is knows for luring these same groups for revenue generating events.  the city revenue of course doubles when more people get arrested.  I think it's time for FBI to step in and investigate this organization called Miami Beach. This institution is terribly corrupt from the police department all the way to the mayor.   They don't even have cameras on their cars!!!  Why an officer want to hide what he/she doing?  Sue this place hard!!!! maybe then their oblivious residents will wake up and demand some real answers instead of a childish protest.

No Tom you can always avoid the police in certain times when there  frustrated and feel that any person that does not dress and act in the manner of there lifestyle is not to be respected.....and why not show frustration at a time where a major hip hop  event is being held. Where the majority of people are either black, hispanic and yeah, some white folks who live hip hop to be personified as being hostile and a danger to society around them...When an fact innocent people are being shot by the very same law figures, who are suppose to serve and protect...we are in times where the police are taking the law as a  stepping stone to do any thing they want and laugh about it later, because some people can't do anything about it. And the police do not reason any more by talking. Even in a  non threatening situation, the police substitute reasoning  with a TASER GUN or a PISTOL. Im not saying the guy that got shot by Miami beach police was not wrong for driving drunk or what ever the case may be. But, police are taking any situation as a means to use AGGRESSION. And yeah TOM, you've walked day and night and never met a police thug in a crazy situation cause you probably walked a different road when there was a serious problem and stayed in your house when police sirens were screaming through your street for hours. Which you should, because all it says is that you've been doing the right thing for 8 years and thats staying away from angry cops...

Funny I have driven all over Miami Beach every day atevery hour of the day and night for 8 years and have never had a THUG Cop gun me down!! Poor Raymond must have been driving a Toyota with a stuck gas peddle. Are some of you that stupid, I'll take it that since you havent been either placed in jail for nothing or gunned down by our police force then you probably also haven't tried to kill a police officer either.
