In South Beach police is far more dangerous than any criminals! I think every resident already knows... However, most long term residents left already. The gay population is gone for sure. Don't be fooled by a gay commissioner and all these gay events! Just like black events they are all revenue generating deals. Give the cops a break. This was the last day of Urban Crap Weekend, tensions were high and cops were tired. On the other hand, it is blatantly illegal what they did in trying to confiscate and destroy phones. PErsonally, I've had a number of incidents with police (no, I'm not a criminal) and find them, almost to a man, to be arrogant, rude, unethical people who use their position of authority in just about any manner they wish.

I'm black and the only thing I can say is we has a people need to blame ourselves before blaming cops. Trust me, there are some cops that don't deserve to wear the badge but before we point the finger we need to point at ourselves. Until you are in that position, don't be so quick to throw the first stone. That was a tense moment and my gun would have been drawn also. My gun would have been drawn the whole weekend after 7 pm. We created that environment so i can't blame cops for being pricks at times.

The issue is why did the police pull guns on bystanders and destroy private property without just cause.

There was no probable cause, but I guess in a country where the civil rights are being eroded (reference the supreme courts recent ruling on the 4th amendment allowing cops to kick in doors if they 'suspect evidence is being destroyed') this is acceptable.

Note the case in Pima county here in AZ where a bad investigation led a swat team to murder a 2 time Iraqi Veteran over nothing...bad policing but nothing ever comes of it. It is Government sanctioned murder. If they dont try people for that, they sure wont over cell phones and excessive use of force.

The Police must be held accountable. Period. This video displays complete and utter lack of obedience, discipline and common sense on the part of the police and hence, lack of acknowledging citizens civil rights.

Folks, I always say it, and I will say it again. We need to take our country back. Stopping this stuff through peaceful protest and civil disobedience as a whole society is where we get it back on track.

How does this confirm that officers smashed cell phones and threatened people? All they were doing was securing the scene and pushing people out. Of course they had guns drawn, there was a shooting 30 seconds earlier and you have people running, yelling, and pointing black/ shiny objects at you. The problem is, it wasn't just Miami Beach PD involved in the shooting. Police from all over South Florida were in Miami Beach that night, which means that the questions surrounding the shooting run deeper than just one department.
