The video confirms reports that police officers threatened several witnesses who had captured the incident on video or in pictures, and smashed their phones or camera. Benoit however would not release his video unless a media outlet purchased it. Eventually CNN ponied up the dough.
From CNN:
"When he noticed me recording, one of the officers jumped in the truck, put a pistol to my head," Benoit said. "My phone was smashed - he stepped on it, handcuffed me."Benoit has retained an attorney, and is considering filing a lawsuit.
Juan Sanchez a detective with Miami Beach Police Department said he could not comment on how officers that night handled eyewitnesses who may have filmed the incident, because the matter could become the subject of an internal investigation or a civil lawsuit.
