My brother once had a shotgun put to his back in South Beach and robbed of his wallet. In South beach. He also got pistol whipped in front of our condo in Kendall and mugged too. These things happen, no matter where you are. Keep supporting Churchill's and Sweat and be smart about your surroundings.

Once again the media mis-informs. No one called Churchill's to ask what happened. Not channel 10, not new times, nobody. If anyone asked the owner, Dave Daniels what happened this is what he would say.

"The incident that happened this week occurred well after Churchill's was closed and all the staff had gone home. It was not a drive by. In fact if you've been to Churchill's this week you know that the construction makes it impossible to even drive by. The incident occurred down the street, involved non patrons, and had nothing to do with Churchill's Pub. If anyone from the news bothered to call me I would have been happy to tell them this."

Quick comment, the vagrant crackheads who hang out around Churchill's aren't Haitian.

Moving on, it's a joke that Churchill's doesn't pay for security, everyone knows it's a problem and is tired of being harassed by the junkies and crackheads. Go ahead and charge 50 cents more for drinks, it will be worth it.

Well, first off the beers are not that cheap, secondly, most of the bands that play there are pretty horrid (obviously, my opinion) and most people do stay home and play with themselves as evidenced by the lackluster live music attendance in this city. If we had a legit, clean, safe, good sounding venue with higher quality bands maybe more people would come out. For now we have the same 50 or so punkers at churchill's, most of whom just drink PBR's in the parking lot.

There is several things that should be notedFirstly Churchills was closed at the timeChurchills is purely used as a geographical reference had the victims had a chance to walk in any direction for less than two minutes this would not have resulted in bad pr for Churchills.This is 100% a policing issue, I have extensive experience with Churchills from the mid 80's onward and can tell you that other than being a dive bar situated in a very low income area of our city, Churchills itself does nothing specifically to attract this sort of attention. I don't know what the current police concentration is but I doubt if it's any different from 2004 when just two police units (single cop) were assigned to the area from 54th St to 79th St and from 4th ave (NE) to nw 7th ave this is an area of 300 square blocks in an area that is economically deprived. How can that be right!Back in 2004 they had to bring in a task force to quell the high incidence of crime but it was only a temporary measure. In my opinion policing should be of a higher concentration, the official city of Miami viewpoint back in 2004 was well you can employee off duty cops, forgive me but I thought that was there job. Regarding the parking lot if police would trespass warn the bums they would have to move on, but they don't, so the lot terrorists survive. I am not going to excuse all Churchills faults but am adamant that this is just not fairThank youMike

I agree, when my car was robbed, i waited for over an hour for a cop to show. Then, the cop, never even got out of her car, just wrote up a report. She told me how they have bigger crimes to worry about in the neighborhood than car beak ins. Well, riddle me this batwoman, If a crackhead breaks into my car, that gives him 1. money to buy drugs, which 2. brings in a drug dealer to the area, which 3. brings other drug dealers into the area because there's business, which 3. brings a turf war over who will sell in the area, which 4. leads to a shooting to settle the dispute. Now you have the direct line to why you have "bigger crimes" to worry about. How about not being a lazy piece of shit and doing your job? I know it's hot outside your squad car and those crackhead are "mad nasty" but you took the job now do your damn duty! If a McDonald's worker at minimum wage was as derelict in their responsibilities as most of the cops in that area they'd be fired within days. Miami P.D. get your damn act together!

if your still hanging around churchills a half hour after they close on a wednesday, 3:30 in the middle of the night, your begging for a problem. all condolences to the victims and their families, but im always telling people not to hang out there in the parking lot after they close. that spot is incredibly dangerous. the locals, as you put them, are crackheads. a very desperate and dangerous element.

I had my car broken into there. I was told who the suspect was and i smacked him around a bit and chased him off out of the parking lot. This is more than the cops or any staff at churchill's has ever done. Actually, he went right back to the parking lot the next night as if he works there. My guess is one of those crackhead broke into a local Zoe Pound members car by accident and those guys play a little rougher than I do. I wouldn't wish death on a thieving crackhead but I can't say as I'll miss him much. As far as Churchill's goes, I'm done with it. If a new venue opens with more respect for it's patrons opens, i'll be at every show.

Color aside (I am black); the neighborhood haitians have left Churchill goers alone for the most part. Hopefully it was the usual locals vs locals violence and non of the Churchill visitors were affected. Not saying that Churchill visitors don't commit crime, but it is hard for me to imagine the "Bass Player from Unit Six" or his fan base were spraying bullets from outside of a car

I'm sorry to hear this. Unfortunately things like this happen quite often around Little Haiti. Despite what goes down outside of Churchills, it doesn't change the fact that for some of us Churchills is like home. I have been attending shows there for a little over a decade, and I have never had incident. (knock on wood)

Smith1 - You are right, it does not matter from a tragedy standpoint, but it is an important question from a "going forward" avenue - Who got shot, and more importantly WHY IT HAPPENED is vital information - My friends car was stolen right outside the club a few weeks back, and it wasn't the "Bass Player from Unit Six" that did it.... It was one of the vagrants who mill around outside who ironically enough ask for "Money to watch your car" - There was always a common trust around that club - The locals let the Churchills folk be, and the cops never hassled the locals for loitering - Now in the last two years Sweat has been broken into, a ton of cars have been robbed, and now this - yikes -

crime is crime is a sophomoric perspective. the more information there is of any criminal incident, the more chance there is of solving and eventually diminishing these kinds of incidents through pro-active preventative measures. criminology 101.

while i cannot speak for Sweat Records, i do remember other occasions where the store was broken into and vandalized.

Bullshit. Crime is crime. Any business that hasn't experienced crime should invest in lotto tickets. Knowing the color of someone's skin will do absolutely nothing to prevent anything, and any business that has had only one minor crime committed against them in 2 years is doing quite well -- especially anywhere in the city of Miami.
