State Rep. Luis Garcia To Make Congressional Run Official This Morning

A rumored Democratic challenger to scandal plagued U.S. Congressman David Rivera is expected to make it official at a press conference this morning. State Rep. Luis Garcia has invited the local media to join him at Tamiami Park at 10 a.m. for "an important announcement." We're betting Garcia, a former Miami Beach fire fighter whose political career began as a commissioner in that city, will confirm what Politico reported back in June; that he is running against Rivera in 2012.

The national blog quoted unnamed Democrats claiming that Garcia "will provide an impressive contrast to Rivera, who has been tripped up by investigations into his campaign finances and personal loans."

Redistricting is expected to make Rivera's seat, the 25th Congressional District, less Republican, which also makes the freshman congressman a tempting target.

i think luis will do a great job and is a very good contender against rivera. now we have to worry about who will replace luis in his state seat. i have heard rumors that pedro diaz, is seriously considering a run. hes that young kid that ran for city of miami commissioner back in 09. whatever it is, luis got my vote. hes a man of the people.
