Miami Beach SWAT is out in force tonight
Miami Beach Police Department S.W.A.T. Team was called in to handle a stand-off on South Beach tonight.

An unidentified white male "barricaded" himself at 1309 Euclid Avenue, according to Det. Vivian Hérnandez. As of 10:15 p.m., both 13th and 14th Streets were blocked off at Euclid. A half-dozen squad cars were parked behind crime-scene tape and the back door to the S.W.A.T. van stood open.

UPDATE: The man was taken into custody without incident around 10:25 p.m. but the whole event was a case of mistaken identity.
The man retreated into the building when undercover police asked him for identification, thinking he was the subject of a grand theft warrant. Police then called S.W.A.T.

Turns out, however, that the man they later arrested was not the suspect, just a guy who didn't want to hand over his ID. But he is still being charged with obstruction of justice.

Not a good Friday night for him.

Right suspect home at the wrong time, criminal background check anyone? The cops have been showing his picture all month to everyone in the building.

Completly wrong story it was the right suspect. The rest of the building however, spent the 2 hours on their floor for fear of being shot.

We were told by police that the guy arrested was not the one they were looking for. If that's not true, please let us know, we'll correct and/or update our story.michael.miller@miaminewtimes.com
