TV Ratings: Miami Wasn't Particularly Interested in Women's World Cup

The Miami television market usually leads the nation in viewership of the men's World Cup, but apparently couldn't be bothered on Sunday to tune into the final of the ladies' version. The Miami market only ranked 25th in viewership.

Sure viewership wasn't exactly dismal. The USA vs. Japan final brought in a local rating of 9.0. That's higher than the national average of 8.6, but 24 other markets tuned in greater numbers, including West Palm Beach, which came in third. Sure, that only includes ratings for the broadcast on ESPN and not the Spanish-language broadcast on Galavision.

Consider though, that for the men's World Cup the Miami market was rated number one even when only considering English-only broadcasts.

Nationally, the Women's World Cup Final was the most watched women's soccer game since the 1999 final, and beat out ratings fro the MLB All-Star game.

Well there were a bunch of other soccer games (Mens South American teams) going on this past weekend, that probably had something to do with it.
