Karlos Dansby Throws Wet Sponges on Rumors of Firing Tony Sparano
With a 0-2 record and the longest active losing streak in the NFL, it's little surprise Tony Sparano is on the hot seat. But Fins vet Karlos Dansby says the coach should stay. He says the players just need to soak up all that juicy Sparano goodness like thirsty sponges.
"One-hundred percent," the linebacker said when asked about the team's support of Sparano. "Without a doubt. Coach Sparano -- he's our coach, he's our leader. And without a leader, man ... without a head, you're dead."
"These guys (are) awesome. There's too much experience in this building not to have confidence in how the coaches have been coaching right now. There's too much experience in the building, man. We've just got to soak it up, got to be sponges."
We're not so sure that "got to be sponges" is the best motto for the team right now. Their play has looked particularly soggy, limp, and porous lately.
Though, Greg Cote of The Miami Herald reports that owner Stephen Ross may be ready to cut off the team's head, Tony Soprano-style:
His Dolphins future is wavering and could depend on Miami winning during this commencing three-game road trip -- with Sunday's game at Cleveland presenting itself as the most likely victory of the three by a lot. Sparano won't survive coming home 0-5, which will loom as a real possibility without a win this Sunday.Yes, we all know the Fins were road warriors last year, but the team's next three games aren't exactly easy. The Browns are the most likely to go down but still come into the game as favorites. Then it's off to the Chargers. They're 1-1 right now, but they looked a lot better in their loss to the Patriots than the Dolphins in theirs. Then it's off to the Jets, who've managed to look good this year even without the help of a trip-happy strength coach.
