Humans are also animals. There is no preagricultural aboriginal tribe or nation existing or historical that are known vegans. Domestic farm animals are genetic goofies that were created by humans through careful selection from their wild ancestors. Intelligence, speed, and wariness were bred out of them long ago to make them easier to be kept, fattened up and led to the slaughter. These are the animals that we eat now and it is the only reason for their existence. Yet factory farming is odious and inhumane on all levels. If this is how we are to consume animal protein then we must do a better job of it. Plants must make up the larger part of our diet but to deny our need for animal protein is to deny human evolution.

PETA was taken over by the inmates some time ago. Apparently they are able to promote their schizophrenic delusions to those susceptible to their message. The rest of us just laugh and shake our heads while enjoying a good juicy steak on occasion.

He was spear fishing, IE: 1 freaking fish at a time. He was not some charter boat pulling up thousands of fish in large nets killing other marine life. PETA HAS BECOME COMPLETELY IGNORANT AND RIDICULOUS!!!! They really want to make a difference they start and support a fish farm and start breeding life back into the oceans population. There's in idea that makes some freaking sense instead of wasting money on a Billboard Ad that will probably get them sued.

Yeah, that's part of my problem with PETA and other extremist animal rights groups - hell, extremists in general: acting like all offenses are the same. I sympathize with vegetarians/vegans and have tried to lower my own meat consumption, but I could never completely give up meat - nor, I believe, would most of the world population. Universal vegetarianism/veganism is never going to happen. I think there should be more emphasis on trying to get most people to eat LESS meat - which would have a far bigger impact on the planet than just 5% of people completely abstaining from meat consumption - and going after large factory farms and large-net fishing, people with no regard for how the raising/catching of animals for food is hurting the environment. Everyday hunters and fishers, however you may feel about their activities, are not the problem. Acting like they are is only going to alienate all but the most ardent supporters, and end up hurting the animal rights cause more than it helps it.

I'll add that I love nature/plants/animals and life in general when I'm in a decent mood. I eat nearly anything that tastes good & is familiar to me. If monkey balls were reported to taste good, I would not eat them as it is against my range of familiarity/acceptance. Needless suffering isn't necessary for us to get our food. Cruelty is wrong. It is almost inhuman for a person to be "ok" with acts that deliberately cause/increase UNNECESSARY or ADDITIONAL suffering in any arena. In this "'dog eat dog" world every living thing eats other living things but If I had to butcher my own fowl or meat I'd likely do without it for the gruesome reality of it that is disguised by pretty packaging. On the other hand, in 1969 or '70 we were informed that during an experiment with a plant and a person who was to cut the plant and think on this while passing before the specimen, what was identified with either fear or pain (or both) on the part of the plant registered on test equipment (similar to an electrocardiograph) as the person with the premeditation to injure passed by and nothing registered when others passed near. This proved that the plant reacted to THE mere THOUGHT of being injured. We weren't happy to know this. What are we to eat that doesn't cost something pain/death? To call mean people animals doesn't make sense to me... When my pit bulls fight with each other I tell them to "quit acting like humans". They usually comply...

I read a news report where a man spear fishing was attacked by a billfish. I thought the event bizarre. The article lacked the complete story as the reporter was biased portraying the man as the only injured party (as if his prey feels no pain or fear and fish have no will to live).

Being that we are the only known sentient species on this planet should automatically give us the sense to make us good shepherds. Even the Godless masses should have the collective intelligence to know that if you shit on your food source, it becomes inedible. We aren't and we don't, as a whole. PETA, I applaud your bombastic approach to getting your opinions out, yet find most of your ads juvenile to the point that I'm pretty sure my 3yrold could come up w/ it when he's throwing a tantrum. You seem to be in a race w/ yourself to alienate as many people as you can from your cause. Many of those ads are the definition of "fan service" and lack any attempt to draw new people willing to hear your message.Our poor shepherding of this world has removed much of the natural predators that would correctly regulate wild populations, an yes, we are stretching recources to the breaking point. Perhaps you should be utilizing your own creative team to bring a more "fuzzy" message to the public and some actual, factual information on what people can do to help get the results you seek. Ethical doesn't mean No Kill, sometimes killing-in way that can be a benefit- is the option available.

I relocated from Miami to Norfolk, VA a few months back and the PETA world headquarters is about a mile from my house. We get buckets of these wackjobs walking the Ghent downtown area protesting the rape of rabbits and use of frozen pork-chops as a treatment for swelling (or whatever it is exactly that they're protesting). Anyway, I saw one darkly humored soul wear this t-shirt in a bar packed with PETA personnel: "Meat is murder. Yummy, tasty murder." I should have bought that guy a beer.

Come on. This is not personal to the guy who got his leg bit. It is a message, an aggressive one. And People don't like it because it raises questions that people don't feel comfortable about. Get over it- and maybe if you put this effort into learning a bit more about the animal cruelty that is happening, would be better for everyone.

Quick question, Arent a few of those young adults on the fishing adventure employed for a Veterinarian clinic, saving animals from 8-5pm? and second, isnt alt least one of those young adults a VEGETARIAN? - raised in a family of vegetarians? Didnt at least one of them make a local paper for rescuing orphaned cats in a house that was to be demolished? PETA, you all are plain dumb. You should find out a little more about those you choose to indirectly attack. LMFAO - do your research first. Every time I see adds for meat from the grocery store or a restaurant I am frightened. It's extreme, so much animal products for such little money, that's a lot of killing. They breed these animals so they can kill them so you can eat them because you demand them. PETA is in no way extreme, they only point out the extreme we do, but, i guess, no one likes to be called out for anything. When we are called out, we typically get defensive, much like almost every response I've read to this article.

What's more extreme, killing/hurting an animal or pointing out that you did it?

Why do animals need our help to survive in the first place...We shouldnt "own" animals, they were meant to be free in the wild, either enjoying nature, being predators or prey, thats their natural cycle...we as humans messed that all up when we started enslaving animals for either our own protection or their "cuteness." Everytime i go to a pet store and i see that poor monkey just sitting there i wanna break his poor ass free and send him back to wherever he came from where he gets to be himself...not for some rich f*ck to be buying him and giving him some scientist made monkey food that the poor thing has to eat for the rest of his life...all pet owners suck...the happiest dogs i ever seen were the ones that lived out in the wild...

Ha, you know, I own a cat, and he really have to be the happiest cat in the world. They got someone to feed them everyday, pet them, scratch their stomach..... I really doubt that they would want to go out and live in the wild. They go outside just about everyday, but hardly leave my yard, let alone go down the street of my neighborhood and go into the woods. And get this, they actually hunt, yea, did you know that there are animals out there that actually hunt other animals? Shocking isn't it? You know that fish are animals, right? If you eat fish, you aren't even vegetarian. And the fish probably die in a worse way than many of the cows and chickens we eat, since they either suffocate or are bludgeoned.
