Anthropologists Hit Back at Rick Scott

Rick Scott can't open his mouth without causing some sort of controversy. While pushing the need to get more Florida college students to major in things like science and math, he dissed anthropologists.

"Is it a vital interest of the state to have more anthropologists? I don't think so," he said.

Now the American Anthropological Association has released an angry letter addressed to Scott.

Here's the letter, which was signed by AAA president Virginia Dominguez and executive director William E. Davis:

It's like Scott doesn't even have to try and piss people off anymore. He's a natural at it. Sounds like ripe ground for an anthropological study.

"Groundbreaking discoveries" in African-American heritage, legal history, and bilingualism! Too funny. Is the person who wrote this working for Gov. Scott?

Dominionist nut-bags like Rick Scott want to wipe out anthropology because it conflicts with the teachings of the bible concerning Adam, Eve, the garden etc. In Brevard County, there are buried ancient human remains in the Windover subdivision Titusville; 160 paleo Indians from 9,000 years ago inside a peat bog. The oldest intact human brain ever (do you know what EVER MEANS?) recovered on this continent was found in this bog. Artifacts etc. requiring the skills of geologists, archaeologists and (wait for it) anthropologists to study over the span of two decades. Those people learned their craft at (wait for it) Florida State. Anthropologists and archaeologists from this state go back and forth to Central America, Italy, Greece, all the time; this fosters an image of Florida's educational system, one of excellence. But no, let us sit and listen to the idiot natterings of a criminally inclined religious zealot and do as he says. And dismantle academia step-wise to suit his thug-ignorant, narrow bandwith, inaccurate, insidiously evil cosmology. Next year he'll be back to cut more learning, until there is nothing but pug stupidity. After which it will make all the sense in the world to just shutter the buildings all and sell them to some other pornservative perversions: Jesus casinos or whatever they have in mind.

Problem is that entrepreneur isn't exactly a major in college. Sure, you can get a various and sundry business degree, but not everyone that's an entrepreneur has one of those. I was an anthropology major, went on to get a law degree, and now work in a business that employs a few hundred people in SoFla.

It's just another example of putting foot in mouth for our Gov.

I hate to admit it, but I agree with Prick Scott on this on. On a related subject, the quality miami new times "journalist" chose the phrase, "he dissed anthropologists". DISSED? The ghetto slang for "disrespected"? Are you writing for a lower mental group, or do you not know the difference?

If it wasn't for anthropologists, we wouldn't know so much about knuckle-draggers.

Entrepreneur is exactly a major at Florida State and a minor at FIU.
