Carlos Gimenez is the Same as the Old Boss

• Let's review, Carlos rolled back the tax rate, reduced departments from 50 to 25, Negotiated with the Fire Union and got consessions, and is working on rolling back the $$$ raise that the PBA John Rivera negotiated and for which Natasha and Alvarez were also recalled for. Julissa you are a Julio Robaina advocate? You advocate his total distruction of the City of Hialeah's finances? You advocate the closing of public tax paid parks? You advocate his employment of staff with family sitting on the City Council? You advocate for his disrespect in fair labor negotiations with all 3 City Unions which have cost the City dollars it can ill afford? Clean your own house Julissa before you throw bitter resentment comments out there, it seems  your perception of reality is a bit distorted. Julio Robaina lost becuase the people saw through him and all the money he put into purchasing the election was for not. Please re-direct your efforts and try to recall that he has left a legacy of mismanagement and financial disaster in the City he was hired to manage. Miami Dade may not attain perfection under Gimenez but it is way better off than if Robaina had been hired for the job, which he was not. As to pending indictments who cares really, bottom line he lost money and what does that have to do with reducing a City to poverty as he did in Hialeah.

• We need more people that work and less fat rats. Half of the County employee do work while the rest collect big checks, have long lunches and complaint.

• Gimenez needs to reduce the number of full-time County employees.

• Carlos Gimenez might have taken a pay cut as Mayor but at the same time he gets a $140,000 per year pension from the City of Miami taxpayers. Gimenez needs to cut more pay and benefits starting with the bloated executive staff.

• Of course you are a UF grad because apparently you think people are dumb enough to fall for the old "He's not letting anyone make $315,000 a year anymore" line. That doesn't mean squat when you still have dozens upon dozens of county executives making more than 100K a year. Go drink the kool-aid on some other web-site.

• Let me guess you're one of those fat cat bureaucrats with a six figure salary who gets to keep your job who is real good at "the process." Give me a break with the bureaucratic mumbo jumbo and bs about systematic change. 

• Wow, it is really sad how many people have no idea what they are talking about in this town.  The last County Mayor had a manager that was pulling in almost HALF A MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR!  The last County Mayor was making $315,000.00 a year.  Now, the Current Mayor dropped his salary to $160,000.00 per year, and took over both the Mayor and Manager possitions at a savings of almost $600,000.00 a year.  And that is just the beginning.  Anyone who thinks Robaina would have done any better must be smoking something.

• It does appear Carlos Gimenez is trying to pull a con on taxpayers. Carlos hired several Deputy County Managers giving them massive pay and benefit plans. Easy to give the unemployed Ed Marquez a $300,000 package when you fire 5 data entry clerks making $50,000 each. 555 pink slips? Gimenez needs to fire 2,000 to start making progress.

• HA HA HA HA HA The laughs on you fools at the County that voted for Gimenez!!! You believed the Miami Herald fish wrapper about The Boogie Man Robaina and now it turns out that what Uncle Luke said and even toward the end what Alvarado realized was that, Gimenez was EXACTLY what Robaina said he would be MORE OF THE SAME. At least Robaina would have had the manhood to fire all the leeches from County Hall BECAUSE NONE OF THEM SUPPORTED HIM BECAUSE THEY KNEW HE WAS COMING TO CLEAN HOUSE instead they started a whisper campaign to smear someone would have done a better job and got things done CONGRATULATIONS MIAMI-DADE AS USUAL YOU GET WHAT YOU DESERVE. Oh and BTW where are the pending indictments that Gimenez assured us were coming to take Robaina to jail??? THAT RIGHT THEY DON'T EXIST.... Truly the Banana Republic

• Wow, talk about having no idea what you are talking about.  The guy has been in office for 4 months, and cut taxes back to where they should have been to begin with, started work on restructuring the government (41 departments are now 25), cut his salary by 50%, cut the Mayor's Office Budget by 20%, eliminated an upper administration of 14 to 6.  The new department directors and the displaced department directors are going to have their salaries re-evaluated, actually, that is already happening, he took away all the car allowances for those employees under his perview, is eliminating take home cars, 400 so far, and more to come.  So far, so good.  The unions need to give back their Alvarez salary increases, and give up some more.  Creating efficiencies in operation will result in savings that can go to the taxpayer, and, to a lesser extent, the employees, but, in the real world, not in make-believe-all-I-do-is-write-for-a-yellow-rag world, the true systemic change does take some time, and so far, he is off to a great start.  In the next few weeks, the revised salary structure will be revealed, but, the process has to be fair. 

• No one should be surprised at this!

• I hope people realize what will happen in the County when Police get laid off next week. In a department that is already 400 officers short to lay off another 90 officers would be catastrophic in times of uncertainty when unemployment is high and crime is on the rise. Get ready for the Apocalypse in the 305.

• This list is fascinating not because of the people that appear on the list, but because of the people who do not. Where are all of the overpaid executives who appeared on your list of 3,301 county employees making over $100k? Where are the Directors, Deputy Directors, Assistant Directors, and Assistant to the Directors, especially from those departments that have been merged with others? Where are the employees from the Mayor’s office, the Budget office, and the HR Department? Instead of the county fatcats with big salaries, we find a list chock full of data entry specialists and library assistants, which are among the lowest paid employees in the county. Once again, the politically-connected “haves” prosper, while the unconnected “have-nots” get the shaft. Such unfairness.
