Daytona Man in Assisted Living Facility Stabs and Chokes Caregiver Over Cable TV

Categories: WTF Florida
Justina Threadgill, the owner of an assisted living facility in Daytona Beach, Florida, found herself the victim of a vicious, near-fatal attack all because she talked with an accent and refused to fix the cable TV in one of her client's rooms.

49-year-old Thomas Clifton Wilkes now faces charges of attempted murder.

Wilkes had been living in the facility since August, but was angered because Threadgill repeatedly "nagged him about following the rule," talked with a thick accent and denied him cable tv, according to The Daytona Beach News Journal

Wilkes finally snapped yesterday morning just before 10 a.m. While eating breakfast at the facility, he located a kitchen knife in a drawer and walked up behind 60-year-old Threadgill and threatened to slit her throat. Threadgill struggled, and Wilkes began stabbing her multiple times with the kitchen knife.

When he realized that the knife wasn't sharp enough he began choking his caregiver. He continued until she fell limp on the floor, and then he called 911 to report that he "lost his mind" and "stabbed a lady."

After getting off the phone with the dispatcher, Wilkes noticed Threadgill was still concious and began making gurgling sounds. He choked her again until her body went limp a second time.

He then went outside the home and waited for police. When they arrived he said he knew he'd be arrested, but he just "couldn't take it anymore."

He offered a full confession, and is being held without bail on charges of attempted first degree murder.

"She's truly devoted to special needs individuals, she's done that for all the years I've known her and even longer," one of Threadgill's friends told MyFoxOrlando.

The caretaker is recovering in a nearby hospital.

Wilkes family says that when he doesn't take his medication he becomes violent. It's not known exactly why Wilkes needed to live in an assisted living facility.
