Miami Hurricanes' Micanor Regis Suspended for Punching UNC Player in the Groin

We're not sure what's hurting worse: Miami's already depleted defense or North Carolina receiver Dwight Jones' groin after he got punched in his nether regions by Miami starting defensive tackle Micanor Regis during Saturday's game. As a result, Regis will be suspended for the next match against Georgia Tech, which leads us to believe that the U's D is sorer.

"I'm truly sorry for my foolish actions Saturday during the North Carolina game," Regis said in a statement released by the school. "It was hurtful, wrong and embarrassing to both football programs, to both schools and to the millions of college football fans that were watching. Specifically, I want to apologize to Dwight Jones, Coach [Everett] Withers and the entire UNC football team. I am hoping and praying that you all forgive me for my actions."

Regis has been a starter all year, but was caught on camera punching Jones in the nuts -- sorry, sorry, we use the term "groin" in the respectable media -- during the third quarter.

The suspension is just the latest blow to the Cane's D. Star defensive tackles Marcus Forston and Curtis Porter are out for the season because of injuries, while several other defense stars were suspended earlier in the season thanks to their part in the Shapiro scandal. Losing another Defensive tackle, even for a game, has to hurt. The team is noticeably thin on the position.

Those injuries and suspensions, combined with the team adjusting under the new systems imposed by Al Golden and new defensive coordinator Mark D'Onofrio has combined for one of the team's worst seasons for defense in memory.

A lot of punching, see the punch and neck twist by the Michigan State player this past weekend.  They are still figuring out what to do with him!
