The Occupy Movement Needs You, Miami

lukesgospel.jpg
Luther "Luke" Campbell, the man whose booty-shaking madness made the U.S. Supreme Court stand up for free speech, gets as nasty as he wants to be for Miami New Times. This week, Luke assesses the Occupy movement sweeping New York, Miami, and other American cities.

The tens of thousands of protesters occupying streets in lower Manhattan and around the country are allowing the corporate media -- from MSNBC to Fox News -- to paint them as a bunch of out-of-control, radical hipsters and dirty, old hippies clashing with a-hole cops. "Brawl Street" was the headline in the New York Post. But the mainstream press is distorting what the movement is about. The executives don't want the rest of the American public to sign on.

Occupy Wall Street is really about helping folks who have lost their homes to foreclosure. Some want the government to forgive student loans. Then there are the very few anarchists who just don't believe in any kind of law and order.

People are starting to wake up. They are realizing this country has gone to hell and that they have been manipulated for too long. They are rightfully pissed off. Now it's time for the protesters to get organized.

If I were leading this movement, I would focus on the most important problem facing America today: the lack of jobs. Right now the government is offering only slave work, like building roads. President Obama's job plan is just a Band-Aid on our economic problems. The long-term solution is to prepare Americans for new industries to replace thousands of jobs we've lost to kiosks and highly educated foreign workers.

Today you can find an Indian or Russian computer programmer via the Internet who will build you a website or software program for pennies on the dollar. Don't believe all the hype about Apple and Microsoft developing innovative technology in California and Washington state. The computer giants get much of their technology from the Far East.

I've been to Japan a few times, and their technology is five to ten years ahead of ours. We get the hand-me-downs sold by American companies that bought the products on the cheap. When the products arrive in the States, corporations jack up the price on the consumer. The only ones making any money today are eBay, Amazon, FedEx, UPS, and the megabillionaires who run Apple and Microsoft. They include Bill Gates and Steve Jobs, until his recent death.

These protesters have the idea right. But time is running out for them to be heard. They need to fight for reasonable work for reasonable Americans. And newspapers and TV stations must catch on before it's too late.

If we don't do something soon about the morass of an economy we live in, we'll end up living in a simulated reality like the one in the Matrix movies.

So basically all you little whining are saying one thing..... Our Country is fucked! thank God for the 1st amendment! You can sit here & whine all you want but while your out buying the next iPhone & totally contradicting your statements about justice & equality your totally hypocritcal about the cause. That's the reason why our generation is going to hell in a handbasket. NWO has already taken over, live currency free and in nature like we started out & really make a difference in those corporate pockets. Otherwise it just sounds like blah blah blah. I respect the cause that "Occupy" is striving for, but unfortunately our population has grown so far out of control & the social media outlets will never give it a just cause purpose, it's futile. Wonder what you lil whiners will be doing when the apocalypse comes....& trust me it's alot sooner than you guys tend to believe, & I'm not talking some crazy 2012 shit either for you debunkers.

With all due respect, you're out of your mind if you think the US gets most of its tech innovations from the East. For the most part, it's the other way around entirely. The Japanese are great at disseminating, implementing, and optimizing already-existing technology while the Chinese are masters of copyright infringement and ripping off proprietary tech (and turning out a low-quality clone.) I've got a colleague whose dissertation on genetic algorithms was ripped off word-for-word by a Chinese student.

As far as innovation is concerned, the last time the East out-innovated the West was when they introduced compasses.

While I commend you for writing about the Occupy movement, I'd like to note; we don't have leaders. It makes us no better than the 1% we're going against, giving all the fame and spotlight on one person.

Also, you could've promoted the movement that's happening here in Miami. You seem for it, why not bring people over?

I disagree. This movement is about unions doing what they do best, destroy capitalism and incite socialism. People lost their homes, well, perhaps they shouldn't have bought more than they could afford,   Yes, the country is not doing well, both parties are to blame and for almost sixteen years now we have had presidents who are total inept at running the show, who have allowed an ever growing government momentum without looking at productivity.  We need a reset button in this country, but Socialism is not the way.

You said: "Occupy Wall Street is really about helping folks who have lost their homes to foreclosure. Some want the government to forgive student loans. Then there are the very few anarchists who just don't believe in any kind of law and order."

Well aside from the fact that you show that you do not understand what ANARCHIST are you have at least shared the publicity of a global movement against global financial "debt-bondage" by a global money cartel (Central banks & IMF).

This will all get sorted out later but for now inform everyone that governments can not serve two masters. Governments claim to serve the people while they obey the global bankers. Governments can not lead they can only obey, thus the question is who will they obey, banksters or the people?Time for change...

Its Americans getting back to being American. Protesting is a fundamental right that you have as an American. People have finally woken up, and want to be heard, instead of taking it in the____ without vaseline. I think Jobs is an important problem, but I think it gets very complex, when you're involving globalization, which has led to outsourcing. Globalization came from the ability to communicate with others easily across the world, like using the internet.

Look at sunpass, and how many toll-booth operators are gone bc of this new technology. It has moved one industry worker and force them in to another. Sometimes it moves jobs out of the country.

The argument about getting jobs i think is complex, and needs a long discussion.

my best friend's mom makes $77 an hour on the computer. She has been out of job for 9 months but last month her check was $7487 just working on the computer for a few hours. Read about it here MakeCash6.c om

Silliness. The "movement" is so formless as to be about nothing. And governments don't create jobs. Assuming they do is how we got into this mess in the first place, by ignoring the individual creative impulse.

The movement is about everything.  From the government controlling our foods to out of work liberal arts majors who are angry because they chose to pursue a worthless degree and now can't find employment.

The only way to solve this is to bailout those individuals who made bad life decisions and institute economic equality for everyone.  Viva la revolucion!

The only way your best friends mom is making $77 an hour on the computer is by shoving dildos up her ass while guys like you watch and beat off.
