The Tea Party Has a New Enemy in Florida: Water Fluoridation

Categories: Politicks

Despite being a common practice in developed countries for nearly 70 years and dubbed "one of the greatest public health achievements of the century" by the CDC, water fluoridation has joined the likes of Charlie Crist and Barack Obama as the latest enemy of the Tea Party in Florida. Tea Party activists have successfully persuaded Pinellas County to stop fluoridating its water supply because, uh, it's an agenda put forth by the world government to keep people stupid.

Water suppliers began adding fluoride to water way back in the '40s to help control tooth decay. The American Dental Association claims fluoridated water is "unquestionably one of the safest and most beneficial, cost-effective public-health measures for preventing, controlling, and in some cases reversing tooth decay." The only proven side effect is that sometimes, if the concentration is too high, it can leave cosmetic, reversible white spots on children's teeth.

Yeah, well, the Tea Party isn't having it, and its members have convinced the Pinellas County Commission to halt the process in a 4-3 vote.

"Fluoride is a toxic substance," Tea Party activist Tony Caso of Palm Harbor said at the commission meeting, according to the St. Pete Times. "This is all part of an agenda that's being pushed forth by the so-called globalists in our government and the world government to keep the people stupid so they don't realize what's going on."

"This is the U.S. of A, not the Soviet Socialist Republic," he added. (The Soviet Union actually stopped fluoridating its water shortly before its 1991 demise.)

While nearly 70 percent of Florida's population received fluoridated water, now only 25 percent of Pinellas residents will have water from fluoridated supplies.

Strange fears about fluoride in water systems are nothing new. During the Cold War, several conspiracy theorists claimed it was a communist plot.

The official story on fluoride sounds wonderful: Drink the stuff, and you won't get cavities, we're told. It's a nice story. But there's another side to this story -- the side you're never told. And it starts with the astonishing but verifiable fact that nearly all the fluoride dripped into municipal water supplies isn't naturally occurring fluoride at all.

In fact, it's actually a combination of hexafluorosilicic acid and sodium silicofluoride.

These two chemical are considered highly toxic by the EPA. They're actually classified as hazardous waste and when packaged for transportation, they must be labeled as poison and handled by workers wearing industrial safety gear.

LULAC--which is the Nation's oldest and Largest Latino organization--has declared that fluoridation is a Civil Rights Violation--and they are right!  Check it out for yourselves Click here: LULAC: Civil Rights Violation Regarding Forced MedicationMartin Luther King's daughter Bernice and his niece have also come out publically against fluoridation as has Civil Rights leader Andrew Young. As you can see this is not a Tea Party issue--it is an issue that effects everyone.

Seriously?
Seriously?

Ha ha ha.  If you are against flouridation in water, then you are a crazy quack.  Seriously, put on your aluminum foil hats and watch out for UFOs.  If the Tea Party agrees with these nuts, the Tea Party will suffer.

Fluoridation is ineffective & harmful, studies show.  Opposition is scientific professional and growing.

More than 3,790 professionals (including 324 dentists) urge that fluoridation be stopped citing scientific evidence that ingesting fluoride is ineffective at reducing tooth decay and has serious health risks. See statement: http://www.fluoridealert.org/p...

Eleven US EPA unions representing over 7000 environmental and public health professionals are calling for a moratorium on fluoridation.

The CDC reports that 225 less communities adjusted for fluoride between 2006 and 2008. About 100 US and Canadian communities rejected fluoridation since 2008. In 2011 - Marcellus and Mt.Clemens, MI; Fairbanks, Alaska; Calgary, Alberta, Canada; Spring Hill & Hohenwald, TN; Philomath, OR; Pottstown, PA; College Station, TX and Spencer, Indiana; and Pinellas County, Florida have stopped fluoridation .

New York State communities which have already stopped or rejected fluoridation include: Naples, Elba, Levittown, Canton, Corning, Johnstown, Oneida, Carle Place, Rockland County, Suffolk County, Western Nassau County, Albany, Beacon, Poughkeepsie, Riverhead, Central Bridge Water District, Homer, Ithaca, Rouses Point and Amsterdam.

Because fluoride can disproportionately harm poor citizens and black families, Atlanta civil rights leaders, former UN Ambassador Andrew Young and Reverend Gerald Durley, PhD have asked Georgia legislators to repeal the state’s mandatory water fluoridation law, April 2011.  They have recently been joined by Martin Luther Kings’s daughters Bernice and Alveda

Wow, I never thought I would agree with the Tea Party on anything.  There is a growing body of evidence indicating that fluoride can cause a myriad of health problems including bone disease and neurological damage.  Please take a look at http://www.fluoridealert.org/ for more information.

Sounds like the author has not done their homework on fluoride but has instead used the issue to single out and bash an organization they don't agree with by calling them conspiracy theorists.  The author also seems to believe that because an issue has historical precedent that it makes it ok.  How many decades did it take to get lead out of our daily lives?  When ingested, FLUORIDE is a toxin!  It is more toxic than lead and slightly less toxic than Arsenic.  The fluoride in your toothpaste is not the same fluoride in your water.  The one in the water is MUCH worse.  And your toothpaste instructions say "Do NOT swallow"!   Learn more and join us at http://www.FluorideFreeFlorida...

why not read some science?  fluoridealert.org     momsagainstfluoridation.orgiaomt.org  Fluoridation is worthless as ingested fluorides only harm teeth of kids up to age 8 years. Even the CDC had to admit the primary benefit if any exists is topical.  By the way German research very recently proved the topical theory was a fraud also with such a thin layer of protection as to wear away easily. The barrier was 10 to 100 times thinner then the ADA theory claimed. The ADA has a lawsuit for their fraud of promoting fluoridation which actually increases their income with more discolored teeth needing expensive repairs. Very few dentists actually treat poor kids on medicaid because it pays so little. 30 cents on the dollar in Florida. It is sort of a boycott of the poor. Blacks and hispanics are damaged with much more dental fluorosis and much uglier and the CDC data has shown this from the beginning. The early data showed 2.3 times more damage to blacks. Lawsuits are starting by parents of damaged kids and next will come those with damaged kidneys on dialysis. I was just talking to a attorney who is preparing a suit now.19 EPA unions have now asked congress to halt fluoridation. This revolt at the EPA started in 1985 when they proved fluoridation was a fraud. The federal courts refused their lawsuit in 1986.Ingested fluorides harm kids teeth. Stop this foolish policy. Avoid litigation for harm.

People who oppose fluoridation come from every political party and from dentistry also.Prominent Dentists Say Drinking  Fluoridated Water is Risky NEW YORK, Oct. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Breaking away from dental school dogma, more dentists are speaking out against fluoridation because fluoride chemicals, added to NYC's water supply intending to reduce tooth decay, are actually a money-wasting health risk, reports the New York State Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation (NYSCOF).

Seven NYC Council Members sponsored legislation (1) and residents are petitioning Mayor Bloomberg to stop fluoridation, to preserve money and health. Join them: http://www.change.org/petition...

Hydrofluosilicic acid, a lead- and arsenic-laced chemical (2) left-over from making phosphate fertilizer (3) is NYC's fluoride chemical of choice. Fluoridation cost NYC approximately $25 million in 2008.(4)

Dentist Caree Alexander, a former Navy practitioner, then a private practice dentist for 20 years, says fluoridation is "totally ineffective and actually damaging as well."(5)

Dr. Alexander says, "When I graduated from University, we weren't given any information about where [fluoride] came from. We all assumed it was [pharmaceutical-grade] calcium fluoride."

Prominent NYC dentist and Huffington Post Contributor, Dr. Thomas Connelly, writes, "I do not see the good in fluoridating our drinking water ... To me, the 'bad' it can (potentially) do outweighs the good."(6)

Dr. Andrew Harms, former President, Australian Dental Association, who once supported fluoridation, says, "I deeply regret this ... when I did read the science about 10 years ago, I started to get serious concerns."

Dr. Harms says, "To my amazement, when I tried to raise the issue with the [Australian] Dental Association, whom I thought were interested in the science and ... integrity, there was no interest. In fact there was a lot of pressure against me to say anything at all. There was a great concern about upsetting our principle sponsors, the toothpaste manufacturers, who heavily compromise our University," says Harms in a video documentary, Firewater. (7)

Dentist Hardy Limeback, Ph.D., University of Toronto Professor and Head, Preventive Dentistry, apologized for promoting fluoridation because toxicology research shows the purported benefits no longer outweigh the risks.(8)

Dentist Bill Osmunson, Fluoride Action Network spokesperson, promoted fluoridation for 25 years until his patients persuaded him to read the science, "It [was] like a knee in the gut," he says. "Science has turned against fluoridation and we must stop adding fluoride to water."(9)

Dentist David Kennedy, International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT), past president and Fluoride Information Officer, says, "Water fluoridation delivers a drug to infants at a level which would be gross malpractice if prescribed by a physician or dentist." (10) IAOMT is a network of dental, medical and research professionals which supports the effort to inform consumers about health risks from water fluoridation.

Over 3,790 professionals, including 324 dentists, signed a statement opposing water fluoridation. See statement: http://www.fluoridealert.org/p...

Attorney Paul Beeber, NYSCOF President, says, "The National Research Council reported that fluoride, even at levels used for fluoridation, can damage bones and teeth, disrupt thyroid function, be harmful to kidney patients and that studies linking fluoride to lowered IQ and cancer are plausible."

Dentist Jennifer Luke, Ph.D., says, "My [published] work showed that fluoride accumulates in the human pineal gland and lowers melatonin production in animals. I find it extraordinary that no government promoting fluoridation has chosen to pursue these worrying findings."(11)

Dentist and Doctor of Medical Science, Elise Bassin, published unrefuted scientific evidence showing that fluoride can increase the risk of osteosarcoma (a type of bone cancer) in boys and young men.(12)

About 250 communities have stopped fluoridation in recent years.(13)

"All New York State communities should stop fluoridation as soon as possible," says Beeber.Referenceshttp://www.prnewswire.com/news...

I don't think fluoridation is dangerous, but (for non-contagious diseases) I think people should have a choice as to which medicines they put in their bodies.
