Trent Edwards and Brodie Croyle Latest Leftover QBs Given a Look by the Dolphins

Categories: Sports
With Chad Henne probably out because of his injury, someone else will become the Dolphins' 16th starting quarterback in the 13 years since Dan Marino's retirement. The job will most likely go Matt Moore, barring a miraculous Henne recovery, but the Fins are still on the hunt for other backups. ESPN reports that the team worked out Brodie Croyle and Trent Edwards yesterday. They're better known to pro-football fans as "Who?" and "Oh, I think I remember that guy."

Edwards if a former Stanford starting QB. Unfortunately, unlike Andrew Luck, he's definitely not worth sucking for. He then went on to play for the Buffalo Bills and had one of his best NFL games against, yes, the 2007 Dolphins, with a career high four touchdown passes. Though, mediocre play during the next several seasons led to him losing the starting job to Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Croyle is a former Alabama QB who played a few years with the Kansas City Chiefs.

ESPN also reports that although Jake Delhomme is no longer in the mix, David Gerard might still be a possibility.

The Sun-Sentinel reports Moore will likely be given the starting job, but he's not even so sure.

"I don't know," Moore said when asked about his specific future with the team. "We're just taking it day-by-day right now. That's kind of the attitude I have right now."

The team could also choose to bring Pat Devlin up from the practice squad.

Thankfully, the team has a bye week and won't take the field until a game against the Jets on Monday, October 17, so there's plenty of time to figure things out.

while I doubt that anyone comes to New Times for their sports articles, you should probably still learn how to spell Garrard just in case he signs with the Dolphins. Also, Edwards IS a former Stanford QB, not IF a former Stanford QB. Don't you guys have editors over there?

For me, the bye week means at least one weekend this football season where I won't want to commit ritualistic suicide.  Thank goodness for the break; us poor, unfortunate fans need it.
