240 Jobs Cut at Jackson Health System

Categories: News
Just in time for the holidays, the top brass at Jackson Health System have decided to cut 240 jobs from their rolls. That means 170 people are now out of work just weeks before the holiday season. The rest of the job cuts are made up by the elimination of unfilled positions.

Miami's public hospital system continues to fall into an economic sinkhole. In October alone, the system loss nearly $10 million dollars according to the Herald. That's more than than the $6.5 million they lost in October 2010. Needless to say, the system's money situation hasn't been getting better.

Jackson employs  10,970 people, so the cuts amount to a 2.5 percent reduction in their workforce.

The layoffs comes about a week after Chief Financial Officer Mark Knight ordered all employees to take two weeks of unpaid furloughs.
