County Revokes Occupy Miami Permit, Protesters Agree to Move But Not Leave

Is Occupy Miami getting booted from Government Center?
While several anti-Wall Street sit-ins around the country have devolved into violent stand-offs between police and protesters, Occupy Miami has been as peaceful as can be.

Now, however, Miami-Dade County is revoking the protesters permit for Government Center.

"The city is trying to get us to move camp tomorrow," Occupy Miami organizers wrote on the group's Facebook page late last night. "We aren't sure what is going to happen. What we are sure of is.. WE NEED YOU HERE."

Thomas Martnelli, Miami-Dade spokesman, sought to quash any talk of The Man cracking down on the 99 percenters.

"By no means are we trying to kick them out," he said when contacted by Riptide. "We are asking them to temporarily move their location because we have a crane coming into that spot next week for an installation. Once it leaves, they are more than welcome to reapply for their permit to go back to the original spot."

But losing its permit -- even temporarily -- would put Occupy Miami in a precarious position, removing its legal grounds for sitting-in Government Center and exposing protesters to the possibility of arrest.

Alex Ospina, an Occupy Miami member, railed against the permit revocation in a letter to the county yesterday:
You have stated that our permit will expire on November 10, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. Our permit, however, does not have an end date and therefore does not expire at that time. Therefore, it appears that the County will be revoking our permit. This restriction on our First Amendment rights is only permitted if it is narrowly tailored to serve a significant government interest and provides ample alternative channels of communication. In fact, the restriction would be wholly unnecessary.
Ospina did agree, however, that Occupy Miami would move to "the grassy area north of the West Lawn [that] is covered by our current permit."

Despite Martinelli's promises, some protesters are afraid that the permit issue is just a pretext to eventually boot Occupy Miami out of Government Center.

In fact, one Minneapolis-based protester, Xman Dee, warned on Facebook that his city's government did exactly that:
Stay strong guys, Im with occupy minneapolis and we are being told the same lies. Starting monday they will be essentialy kicking us out of the plaza due to new building policy rules. Their main excuse was the winterization process and other "safty concerns" dealing with the cold weather up here. Initally when they asked us to move the other side of the plaza for the winterization process we complied. Now were essentially being evicted. My advice; dont give up any ground without a fight!
Below is the full letter Ospina sent to the county yesterday. Stay tuned for more updates, Miami.

America used to work The people had work. The system worked. Hey, EVEN the Congress used to work...(sometimes). God knows, it was far, far, far from perfect - but at least we all had some share in the struggles AND the rewards. But somewhere along the way, we lost our way. And now we seem to have an economy and a political system that works only for the rich. What they call "trickle down economics"... just leaves most of us out in the cold cold rain. We need to get back to what America was, and what it should be, and what it can be.  Occupy Wall Street is no longer just  a place called  Zuccotti Park -  Zuccotti Park is everywhere. You can try to pen us in, you can beat us and arrest us, you can mace and tear-gas us , and you can try to "permit" us to death....but you can't kill an idea. You can't keep down a people’s hopes and dreams for a better life.....a life with dignity and freedom....for us... for our kids. More power to Occupy Wall Street, as it spreads to every town and city - because  OWS is us, and for us, and by us. It comes up from the grassroots, and it lifts us up in turn. With OWS America has found it’s voice, and that voice demands fairness and justice. This land IS our land! AND WE WANT IT BACK! ...We want our lives back!... We want our future back! ....So why not take some time, find a quiet place somewhere, and consider this:  Each of us has only one brief life...one chance...and many choices. It’s time to choose...and to act.  If not now...then when?  If not you, then... who? You DO have the power my friend....and the choice is yours.

I take that back.  After watching some video of the area on channel 7, I'm going to raise my count to 30.

But lets be honest here.  Nearly all the people people I saw in the video clip could have used a good shower.  So perhaps it is in their best interest that they get kicked off public property and get sent home where they can all take nice long showers.  The movement would benefit if its members didn't look like dirty ass modern day hippies (just regular hippies).

11/10/12 being a Saturday, I will probably be sleeping off a hang over from Friday night's festivities.  Thanks for your concern?

If Obama wins, then... yay?  At least by then then he won't just be a fast talking community organizing junior senator and people will be able to vote for him based on his performance as president instead of a platform based on hope and change.

Define hippie. If you know anything about anything, you know that this term was is a mainstream media invention, an institution by which you are wholly brainwashed. Read a book, tard.
