It's a holiday miracle! NBA players and owners have reached a tentative deal to save the NBA season. Training camp and the free agency period will begin on December 9, with the first games to start on Christmas day. That means that the previously scheduled December 25 match up of the Heat vs. the Dallas Mavericks is now actually going to happen!

Teams will play an abbreviated 66-game season. However, before that happens a number of smaller issues must be worked out, and the agreement must be ratified by a majority of the 30 team owners and the 430 players. On almost all accounts the deal favors the owners. You can read more of the details on the actual deal here.

But we're more excited about the possibility of more basketball! Who will the Heat sign to plug gaps in its roster? Will LeBron finally get his first ring? Will fans still show up?

Regardless, there is one downside to the Christmas day Finals re-match. That means the Heat will likely have to watch the Mavericks be presented with their championship rings. Blargh.

Whatever, at least we don't have to worry about the Florida Panthers being the pride of SoFla sports any longer. (They're in first place in their division somehow, playing this game called "hockey".)
