Kenneshia Thurman wanted two slices of bread and ended up cutting a baby, cops say.
We all know that times are tough, but in Marathon last night a scene straight out of Charles Dickens worst imagination played out when a brawl that erupted between neighbors over two slices of bread ended with a two-month-old baby getting sliced in the head with a knife.

The trouble began before 7 p.m. last night on 23rd St. in Marathon when 18-year-old Kenneshia Thurman knocked on the door of her neighbor, Desanta Carey, to ask for a couple slices of bread.

When Carey denied Thurman's request, an argument erupted. Carey eventually slammed the door in Thurman's face after "muscling" it away from her neighbor, who was pulling at the door from the outside, according to the report.

Thurman walked back to her apartment complex and returned a short time later armed with a knife. The bread-seeking teenager says that Carey struck her first with a baby stroller and threatened her with a shard from a broken plate.

But she later admitted to police that she tried to stab her neighbor in return, but "missed and accidentally struck the baby."

Monroe County firefighters arrived on the scene a short time later, but the infant's mother refused to take her to the hospital.

Thurman has been charged with aggravated battery, burglary and a probation violation.
