Miami Cop Thomas Vokaty Disciplined for Retaliatory Stop of FHP Trooper

The apparent ongoing fight between City of Miami Police officers and Florida Highway Patrol troopers is both sickening and pathetic. These are people paid with taxpayer money to protect Dade County. Not get into to pissing matches.

The MPD has declared that no such rivalry exists, but just yesterday the department disciplined one of their own for what appears to be an apparent retaliatory stop against an FHP trooper. At least they're trying to quell the tension.

The chain of events was tipped off when an FHP trooper stopped and arrested a City of Miami police officer who was traveling down I-95 at 120 mph. Just this weekend, an FHP trooper found his patrol car covered in feces.

Now, Thomas Vokaty, a Miami police officer, has been disciplined for pulling over an FHP trooper for apparently no reason.

At about 8:40 p.m. on Tuesday night Vokaty used his Miami police car to pull over an unnamed FHP trooper. Problem was Vokaty made the stop in Broward County where Miami police have no jurisdiction.

"The action exhibited poor judgement on the part of Officer Vokaty and reflects poorly on the cooperative relationship with the City of Miami Police Department and the Florida Highway Patrol, a valuable partner in the execution of our law enforcement duties," reads the record of formal counseling against Vokaty.

Despite the discipline -- which certainly seems to validate claims that Vokaty only pulled the trooper over out of retaliation -- Miami's Interim Chief Manuel Orosa released a statement this afternoon claiming that rivalry exists between Dade police and highway patrol cops.

"The internet blogs which are propagating this perception are, for the most part, inaccurate," Orosa says. "I'd like to make it clear that the Miami Police Department and Florida Highway Patrol have a professional, cordial relationship."

"The recent traffic stop of an FHP trooper by one of our officers was an isolated incident, and his actions should not reflect negatively on the Miami Police Department."

Every day it seems like MPD becomes more like the TSA.  Incompetent, reckless, uneducated a-holes with a badge.

MPD got all butt hurt that one of their own got caught.  FHP are awesome folks.  Did you know that the MPD guy was clocked going over 100-MPH over 100 times by toll booths in the last year?  So yeah, MPD, stay classy with the execution of your duties.  MPD is an embarrassment to all of law enforcement.

Does any member of this dishorable profession wonder why  uniformed deviants are not trusted, and  held in contempt by a significant percentage of the population?  Of course that deranged deputy doing 120mph should have been stopped, cited .........and fired.

Those who think highly of the misfits involved in this profession should google;  Robert Jordan lawsuit and Code of Silence Facts Revealed.

That Miami cop car could have been stolen. Doing 120mph in another county and unresponsive to FHP, and they're UPSET THAT HE WAS PULLED OVER??? That FHP officer is a HERO!

"Vokaty made the stop in Broward County"

Aren't all you City of Miami taxpayers happy he was using your gas and vehicle to be an asshole?

They're so mad they are getting treated like the "plebs" they harass every day. They want to make sure this doesn't become a growing trend. The law applying to them as to everyone else is not a reality they'd be willing to accept. I'm glad they feel threatened. Back 'em into a corner trooper Watts.

The City of Miami Police department needs to grow up and start acting professionally.  It is embarrassing to see that a police department such as the one in Miami acting childish and disturbing to see how some officers on the blogs seem to hold onto the badge as their free jail card to disregard the laws.

Let's remember Deputies, Troopers, and Local Officers are all on the same team! We're the good guys! Don't forget we are all brothers and sisters in law enforcement. There is enough bad press about law enforcement already, without this kind of stuff feeding the fire! Be safe out there!

One noticeable difference - the FHP are consistently consummate  professionals while the MPD is a  collective of emotionally disturbed, power-abusing and many corrupt, department full of slovenly pigs.

When i was heading to work last night. A City off Miami cop pulled over a SUV in Kendall. If i wasn't cutting it close for work I would've stayed and filmed the entire thing. Hopefully nothing happened.

MPD is a Police Department looking for leadership.  Clearly none exists there.

When your ass needs help I am sure MPD will remember that !  And lets not forget morons. FHP is NOT a true Law Enforcement Agency. They ONLY respond to incidents involving highways or interstates. They can only conduct traffic stops involving traffic infractions on public roadways, they do NOT respond to routine 911 calls such as shootings, domestic disputes, bar fights, etc etc. On the other hand, if your ass gets shot by a thug in miami, guess who is going to show up? So stop talking your garbage about your City Police Dept. Regardless of what you think of them, you just MIGHT need them one day...

If I ever need someone to smear poop on a car, I will be sure to call MPD.  Thanks for the advice.

Obviously the writer knows nothing of Florida statute or florida constitution, florida troopers depending where they are stationed do respond to all those incidents and respond to all incidents on the 308 miles of turnpike and the many businesses at all those toll plazas and shops as well as north florida where law enforcement is scarce but always a trooper out 24/7. Why do you city police think your the only law enforcement in florida when you only cover the smallest portions of the State?. BTW Florida Troopers have full police power to arrest and enforce florida law Statewide, not just limited jurisdiction of city police
