Police in Titusville, a town near the Kennedy Space Center, are investigating a gruesome tragedy this morning. Local police say a 19-month-old child was killed when his grandmother accidentally ran him over with a lawnmower.

Here are the details the Titusville Police Department released to Riptide: Local police were called around 11:50 a.m. to 4150 Navajo Lane in Titusville, in Brevard County.

They arrived to find the 19-month-old boy severely injured. The child's grandmother was towing the kid in some kind of a cart behind the mower, police say.

It's still not clear how the boy fell into the path of the mower, but he was hit by the moving blades before his grandmother could stop the machine.

The child was transported from to the Parrish Medical Center in Titusville where he was later pronounced dead.

No criminal charges have been filed and the case is still under investigation. The police aren't releasing the name of the victim or his grandmother in the meantime.

Very sad story. I hope toddler's grandma should not run to her sin. I don't want to say anything because I don't know the story yet.

This was very clear it is an accident. Nobody wants this to happen even the grandma. I'm sure that she loves her grandchild very much and she is the one who are really affected.

Mince meat and head cheese for sale. Cheap! You need a license to own a dog or fish. Having kids, no license required. Brilliant!

The only question worth asking is why did she think moving the lawn was so freaking important that it couldn't wait until after she was done watching the kid.

If she was custodial, and a lot of grandparents are now, it's not like everybody can always find a babysitter for when they need to get these things done.  I thought like you did when my husband was gone in training, back when I was married, and the end result was the grass got two feet high.  If we'd been out in the country, no big deal, but the city could have gone after us.

Yeah, yeah, I could have hired somebody.  For whatever reason, it didn't even occur to me.  Or it did, and we were broke.  I don't remember now.

Jobs have to be done around the household, though, and not everybody has an armada of eager young women to watch the kids for them like most men do.

Towing people/kids in a cart behind a tractor/lawnmower is fine. I do it all the time. A few things needed for you to do this safely though. First, do NOT engage the blades. Second, if someone falls out, stop the tractor. Don't drive around to pick them up. Finally, and most important, DO NOT ENGAGE THE M*Fing BLADES!!!!
