Hurricanes' 2002 BSC Win No Longer Lowest-Rated Championship Game

"1! 2! 3! 4! This game is a fucking bore!
The 2001 Miami Hurricanes are considered by most sane and reasonable people to be the greatest college football team of all time, but that didn't necessarily translate to big TV ratings. Their appearance in that year's Rose Bowl against the Nebraska Cornhuskers was the lowest-rated BCS Championship game in history. Well, at least it was until last night's painfully boring field goal frenzy.

Last night's Alabama-LSU game now holds the record for the least-watched BCS final, with only 13.8 percent of households in the top 56 urban markets monitored by Nielsen bothering to tune in. That's down from 14.3 percent for the 2002 Rose Bowl.

Of course, last night's game had all the making of a classic "meh." Both teams come from the same conference, both hail from sparsely populated states, and, most importantly, the teams had already played each other in a regular season kick-a-thon.

Last night's one-sided, field goal-heavy play probably didn't help much either. Though, there's unconfirmed reports that field-goal enthusiast Tony Sparano was spotted at Walgreens during halftime stocking up on a king-sized tub of Jergen's and box of tissues.

It probably didn't help that it wasn't on broadcast television
