Miami Dolphins Eyeing Peyton Manning, Really?

The Miami Dolphins have not had a consistent quarterback since Dan Marino, who retired at 38. Twelve years later, the Dolphins are still fumbling around trying to land a franchise quarterback even half as good as he was. Signing a 35-year-old injured player probably won't to help much, but don't bother telling that to the Dolphins brass.

Peyton Manning, of all people, is apparently atop the Dolphins' "quarterback wishlist," according to Barry Jackson at the Miami Herald. Of course, Manning sat out all of last season while recovering from neck surgery. He began throwing the ball again about a month ago, and word was that his short-pass game was still on point, but his deep passing was struggling.

With our apologies to Marino, the Dolphins have already dealt with one aging legend, and that situation devolved into the bitter end of the 1999 season and the infamous 62-7 playoff loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars that ultimately capped both Marino's and Jimmy Johnson's careers.

Then again, if Manning gets healthy, perhaps he can be more late-career Brett Favre -- definitely not a long-term solution for a quarterback, but a quick fix for a season or two.

However, with the hiring of Joe Philbin as the new head coach, the team does have a good chance of landing the Packers' impressive backup QB Matt Flynn. And the Dolphins haven't ruled out the possibility of trading up in the draft to land Baylor QB and Heisman winner Robert Griffin III.

For all you idiots that think that moving up and drafting RGIII is the answer, just look at the QB's in the last 5 Super Bowls, non of them were running QB's.  Yes they all could elude the rush and take off for 5-10 yds when needed, but they weren't QB/RB's.  Keep Matt Moore and spend the money on another quality WR to help him, such as FA Malcom Floyd.  Draft some OL help to open up some holes for Reggie, keep the pass rush off Moore and that will open up the play action pass and with Marshall on one side and Floyd on the other, defenses won't know what to try and stop first, the pass or the run.  Get some Saftey help, our Pass Defense is sorely lacking, and keep as many as the DL and LB's as you can, we have a top 5 run stopping Defense.  That is how this team will improve.  Not by drafting an unproven Rookie and pinning all of your hopes on him nor over paying for a back-up QB (Flynn) who has less playing time than Moore or over paying for a great QB whose season could end at any moment and at best has 2 years left in him.

They should definitely stay with Matt Moore. Give him some time and he'll turn into a first class QB!

Manning isn't the answer. RG3 isn't the answer. Matt Flynn isn't the answer, but he is part of the solution. It makes sense. Matt Moore did his job well this year, but no starting spot should ever be guaranteed. I think they should absolutely bring in Matt Flynn. Look at it this way. If the Dolphins want to draft RG3, they'll have to give up a lot to trade up to get him. No worth it in my book. Assuming the Packers don't franchise Flynn, then all the Dolphins will have to do is pay Flynn. Now you've got 2 QBs in Flynn and Moore challenging each other for the year, and they didn't have to give up any draft picks to do it. For the 1st Rd. pick they definitely draft the best Right Tackle available, if not a Right Tackle, then Safety. Or even trade out of the spot for 1st Rd. next year to a team that'll probably have a good draft spot. Then when next year rolls around, if they can draft Barkley, they'll have plenty of picks to work with if they have to trade up to get him, plus this would give them 2 first rounders next year (again only if they traded out of the 1st Rd spot this year). So if they managed to get two 1st Rd picks next year, they could also use Flynn or Moore as trade bait as well. Aside from QB, the right side of the O-Line and Safety, the team is pretty Solid. I would be willing to wait a year or two at most if it meant getting all the long term pieces in place. I want this team to win. I think this would be the best way to do it. Of course, just my opinion.

Makes sense but look what Newton did this year, as far as a runnibg QB.

What it cones down too is we need a QB majorly, we need to stop making terrible draft pick selections without a QB to build your team around it's like your pissing in the wind hoping for the best.

rg3 is not the answer either. another damn running and throwing qb. none of them have won a super bowl yet. and never will. play out moore this year. going to throw about 60 million at flynn over 2 damn games. we did that with feeley. but at a lower cost. to me i feel wait till next year and go after barkley. i think he is the answer. beef up the d. some ol help. and play out the year. not like we're going to the super bowl next year anyway. even though some of you want to try it in one season. good luck with that idea.

If manning were smart, he would retire! One big hit and he could be paralized. No way Miami, go young with RBG3, Flynn or Matt Moore.

Everyone should stop hyping Flynn a record setting performace with a potent offense full of play makers where most his passes were off target and he had no pocket awareness against a very bad secondary at home is hardly worth all the type... anyone remember Derek Anderson and what he did with a talentless Brwns team but then bombed when he got a fat contract, or Matt Cassel or Scott Mitchell? No thank you, we are fine with is on the table or drafting RG3.

And as for Kyle Munzenrieder's comment about Marino at the end of his career, clearly he knows nothing about Miami at that time, no QB will look effective with what Marino had as weapons and having the ability to audiblize being stripped away from you. Jimmy Johnson ruined Marino's last year and started the down fall of the franchise so act like a sports writer and get your facts straight before you write an ill-informed article tarnish a legends legacy

They should focus on Matt Flynn, he had a record setting game this year and has worked exclusively with the Dolphins new head coach.
