Rick Santorum Tells Florida Audience Colleges Are Basically Evil Parts of a Vast Liberal Conspiracy

Increasingly distant third place candidate Rick Santorum is desperately trying to jump start his campaign, so he's come out with a bold new attack on the Obama administration: college is evil.

"It's no wonder President Obama wants every kid to go college," Santorum told an audience in Naples, Florida, yesterday according to The Hill. "The indoctrination that occurs in American universities is one of the keys to the left holding and maintaining power in America. And it is indoctrination."

First of all, that may be true of the elitist, Northeast coast region that fancy sweater vest-wearing Santorum comes from, but has the dude even been to a college in Florida? The only things kids get indoctrinated into here is the religious of binge drinking and hook ups. No one told us that flip flops, pajama pants, and hoodies were some sort of uniform for the liberal brain washed youth brigade.

Santorum was responding to a section of President Barack Obama's State of the Union in which he said, "Higher education can't be a luxury -- it is an economic imperative that every family in America should be able to afford."

Santorum went on to say that if colleges "taught Judeo-Christian principles, they would be stripped of every dollar."

This isn't actually true. As Wonkette points out Liberty University, the fundamentalist Christian school founded by controversial pastor Jerry Falwell, received nearly half-a-billions dollars in federal aid in 2010 alone.

"If they teach radical secular ideology, they get all the government support that they can possibly give them," he continued. "Because, you know, 62 percent of children who enter college with a faith conviction leave without it."

We should note that Santorum holds three separate degrees from secular universities, and certainly does not seem to have been swept up in any liberal indoctrination.

It's also strange that Santorum made the remarks in Collier County. 30.8% of residents in the county 25 or older have a bachelors degree, five percent higher than the Florida average, and yet it remains once of the most solidly Republican counties in the state.

Are you tired of cold winter weather and have decided that it's time you move to a warmer climate? If so, then it's time you thought about moving to the Miami area. One community you may want to consider is Brickell, which is South Florida's major financial district.

Finding the perfect Brickell condo or Brickell Key condo is a matter of choosing the right building as well as finding a great apartment within it. The facilities and amenities available vary between towers, with gyms, pools and concierge services being available in many, and spas, restaurants and private beaches being available for residents of some buildings.

Anything worth devoting your life to is worth questioning, so I would think Christians would welcome opportunities to examine their doctrines.  Professors deal in secular curriculum, other than specifically religious courses; faith issues do not involve evidence, and so do not have to be presented, should not be presented, as fact in a secular college.  College encourages and promotes critical thinking - questioning and examining evidence of claims made.  Another openly-understood and much lauded benefit of a college education is the chance to become well-rounded and learn to deal with the diversity of cultures that make up our country and world - if you think these ideals could possibly ALL be funneled into one liberal ideology meant to send our kids out into the world mindlessly spouting one agenda is ridiculous - that is what evangelical christianity does, and it is threatened that it cannot exert complete intellectual control over students when they get out into the real world.  Send them to college if you want them to learn to think; send them to Liberty if you want them to learn WHAT to think.

well actually,,,, he's correct.

Actually he is not correct. He is mistaken for example Catholic hospitals that do require health care that covers contraceptives with abortion, which is false, and churches, which is again false as they are exempt.

Well I posted earlier and I hope you're right...I hope that isn't the case...  Because that would be ridiculous.  There are still people out there that believe in waiting until marriage to have sex - including me.  And that avoids the abortion thing entirely! : )

One thing I heard Santorum say last Saturday night after South Carolina was "To avoid poverty, do three things: 1. Work hard 2. Graduate high school (notice he didn't say go to college...which I love) and 3. Be married before you have kids.  That is the radical, accurate thinking that I love about this guy!@0a96538c75fae3e1757e3bcf6b40055a:disqus

And you know what...ultimately, I do my darndest to not judge, but when you're looking at concrete principles/statistics between behavior and poverty, I think Rick hits the nail right on the head with his statement.  To me, he seems like the most honest candidate.  But everybody has their own opinion, so it's all good : )

Plenty is a relative term, but ok, I'll give you that.  But I play the odds... You HAVE to agree that there are more abortions by unmarried women.  The most likely scenario is that it's out of wedlock, an unplanned pregnanacy.

Al, that's not true. There are plenty of married women who have abortions.

You wrote that "We should note that Santorum holds three separate degrees from secular universities, and certainly does not seem to have been swept up in any liberal indoctrination."

About that - YOU should note that college today is WORLDS different than college 15-20 years ago.  I've been in college recently, in South Dakota....REAL midwest and non-East Coast, and every ONE of my professors was hardcore liberal.  They taught you lies if you're a Christian.  They tried to convince you that Christian truths were not true.  Just saying...  In my opinion, Santorum is THE best option for president because he talks truth.  Requiring churches to pay money for abortions?  Requiring?! That is criminal.

Who is "Requiring churches to pay money for abortions?" besides some strawman created by an reactionary fool?

Well, it may be naive to believe that ALL Catholic churches will be required to do that, but I'm telling you, I've seen the people come into college Christian and leave not Christian.  I was IN college in the midwest recently, and it is a scary place if you're a young Christian trying to keep your Faith.  You are forced to learn things to pass tests, even if they go against your Faith.  You have to read books promoting adultery and lying, etc. to get an A.  And what he says towards the end of this attached video is TRUE. Either way... IF gay marriage is legalized, anything preached in church that says one man/one woman only will be considered hate speech and bigotry.  You HAVE to agree with that part...

Santorum has that thing where his face makes him seem a lot thinner than he is, which is weird.  It's even odder than the opposite phenomenon, in which thin people have very fat faces.

Rick Santorum is the anti-gay, anti-abortion guy who is running on these social issues. Never mind health reform or jobs. Or anything important or non-discriminatory, for that matter.
