Miami Beach Misses Out on Hosting Miss USA
![]() |
The city and local business leaders made a strong push to bring back Miss USA to one of its most frequent homes. Besides the stretch in the '60s, Miami Beach also hosted the pageant in 1997, and the City of Miami hosted in 1986. The pageant had been hosted in Las Vegas since 2008.
Though the pageants organizers apparently asked locals to cough up $3 million in planning costs, according to CBS Miami. That was eventually negotiated down to $1 million, but a deal was never reached as time was running out. Instead the pageant will return to Las Vegas once again in 2012.
However, the pageant could come back to its original home in the future.
"They want to come to Miami. We just have to get a few more things in line," Lacey Abbott, director of ACT Productions, a player in the negotiations told The Miami Herald. "I think everybody wants them to come here."
