Terrible Couple Buys Out Target's Entire Jason Wu Collection at Midtown Store

Categories: Flotsam

Eager fashionistas lined up at the Midtown Target Saturday morning for the launch of the chain's latest bargain priced collection from designer Jason Wu. Unfortunately, they were all beat to the punch as a single couple bought out the store's entire stock of the collection with apparent plans to resell it for marked-up prices. The clothes may have been pretty, but things got ugly and police even had to get involved. Update: Target has now responded to the incident

Wu's career has been on the rise lately thanks to regular costumer Michelle Obama. She wore one of his gowns on inauguration night back in 2009 and again when she was featured on the cover of Vogue. The designer collection was hotly anticipated by Target shoppers.

However, Miami Wu-fans were blindsided by a couple of vultures. Electric Blogarella recaps the scene:
These people, who the mob of angry shoppers dubbed "The Vultures Who Ruined Jason Wu for Target," came in and took everything. And by everything, I mean everything except what the few of us were able to grab before he did. It all happened so quickly, none of us knew where everything went. We just saw a wannabe mastermind duo with two carts and everything from the collection in it. And that's when things got ugly. A woman, who had been waiting in line as long as the rest of us, said she wasn't going to tolerate that and took something out of the vultures' carts. The male vulture showed her. Her husband threatened him. The police got involved. And then the insults started to fly. The rest of us who were shopping for ourselves with no plans to resell got mad. How was it fair that this guy was taking everything and then telling people around him they could "buy it off him outside?" The angry mob called over the management and asked them to intervene. And they did. They took him aside and told him it wasn't allowed. But a call to corporate Target told them they were not allowed to enforce such a limit on items. And then we were back to square one.
And, oh yes, there is video:

The couple then reportedly exited the store with both a police and Target security escort.

Lower prices lines by high-end designers for stores like Target and H&M have become quite popular. Unfortunately, the limited stock means people often swoop in and buy the pieces only to offer them on eBay where they can sell for many times the original price point. H&M, which has offered collections by Versace and Karl Lagerfeld, has limits in place to prevent this practice. Apparently, Target does not.

Same thing happened in Hollywood and the people put everything in their cart and then made people wait until they figured out what they wanted and then gave out the scraps to people who waited IN LINE by their cart. It was absurd. And the Target employees just stood by laughing at how stupid it was. Can't believe the company allows this

Who cares if he is a good DJ. He sucks in my eyes!!! He messed up Jason Wu for Target for the REAL fashionistas! It is un believable how Target let these VULTURES get away with this. How could they not protect their brand and the Jason Wu name?

Jesus J Christ in a lime green thong, at least Mizrahi waited before he whored out to Target. That he's going straight to the quick buck shows Mr Wu's lack of taste & desirability.  What, did WalMart turn him down?  Nevertheless, one can expect his one-season-wonder on the GoodWill racks, along w the one-term Obama2012 t-shirts.

if this story and the resulting backlash is any indication, everything DJ Midas touches doesn't, in fact, turn to gold.

Actually most of the Jason Wu is selling for about 30% above retail on eBay, and that's only for a few sizes and items. Similar to the Missoni debacle, most of the items will end being returned to Target in a couple of weeks. That's the sad thing, nobody wins here, vultures to don't get rich, fashion lovers don't get their clothes. Lose-Lose.

If people stop buying stuff you can get from Target from other people at a marked up price, these 'vendors' will stop  doing it.  Unfortunately, you can't tell Americans not to buy needless items.  Wouldn't it be awesome if that couple couldn't sell any of what they bought?

His name is Kevin Wills, DJ Midas. They took armfuls of clothes off of the racks while women tried to take just 1-2 pieces, we could not get our coveted items because these morons pulled them away & threw them in their 2 carts. The time of arriving had nothing to do with they got their 2 carts full of cheap clothes & accessories, it was the manner in which they did it & that was wrong (not illegal but definitely an ignorant move.)

The guy is DJ Midas of Miami. What a bastard.

Smart Girl.

What everyone should do is not purchase ANY of the listings on Ebay. That way they are stuck with a few hundred dollars in debt.

WAAAHHHHH!!!  has consumerism gotten this out of hand?  it is just clothing.. they took the initiative.. anyone whining should have just gotten up a little earlier and been ahead of them in line..

All this over some stupid fashion trend.. really..

How did they get it all, they were just there before everyone else?

This couple is slimy.  On another note, wait a few weeks, it will all be on ebay and there will be plenty to go around at the original prices, just like Missoni, except for a few pieces.

Of all places, they struck Midtown where the hipsters would feel it the worst. You couldn't have gone to Hialeah you heartless bastards?!

This guy is a "DJ" and goes by "DJ Midas." Don't hire him — he doesn't play nice.

If you're ashamed & embarrassed, I'm sure Kev is GLAD you deleted him on FB (how mature). A friend on FB isn't a REAL friend, if you knew him as a REAL friend, you'd just laugh & move on.

It's clothes from goddamn TARGET, he didn't steal food from the homeless or candy from a baby.

I'm SURE Jason Wu didn't mind his brand selling out. If ANYONE has a product & it SELLS OUT it's a success in their eyes. If you missed out, suck it up, you didn't have their hustle OR the money to buy what they did. Wu's name is in NO WAY tarnished...ANY publicity is good publicity. This was a GOOD thing for the brand if anything.

Vultures scavenge on carcasses, looks to me like they left everyone else as vultures and bounced out with the FAT KILL...LMFAO!!! Welcome to the payoff for being materialistic!

Real fashionistas wouldn't wear Jason Wu. Just saying.

I'll win when the vultures return all of this crap and by then Target has to mark it down 50% or more, just like they did with Missoni. I'll wait it out, thanks vultures!!

Or he could just return whatever he doesn't sell within 90 days. Not so Smart Girl.

Not really, if nobody bids in about a week they can still take everything back to Target and get a refund, if they kept their receipts. Target's return policies are pretty generous.

i hired him for years and being a dj has nothing to do with this indident at target.  He is not a criminal hes pretty smart for doing what he did.  Its people who are so shallow that they'd wait in line to buy a label.

In spite of this situation, he's actually a really good DJ.  You can't knock his hustle...

Then let him pay the interest on that credit card bill for 90 days. I wouldn't buy a single Jason Wu for Target item on ebay if it were made of 14K gold.

I was there. Although I was upset that I didn't get everything I wanted. They were first in line. They also did no pushing. It all happened so fast. The guy was nice enough to give me the one piece I had my eye on.

do you sincerely not realize the irony of your last sentence?

and pretty smart? no. pretty smart people start their own fashion line out of designs they create and either fail or prosper with integrity. half-clever hoodlums find loopholes in other people's businesses and make nickels and dimes hiding behind vapid legalities while behaving unethically.

the way i see it, if he's such a good dj, shouldn't he be raking it in and not reduce his talent, his name, his rep, and his gf to such douchebag behavior? this is a perfect example of low income robber baron trashiness.
