Jason Wu Target "Vulture" Charity Event At The Stage Is Canceled Over "Controversy"

Eager Jason Wu fans lined up by the masses earlier this month to be the first to get their hands on Target's Wu collection, but in Miami, Kevin Wills and his girlfriend were way ahead of the game. The pair bought out more than $5,000 in Wu merchandise (nearly the entire stock at the Midtown Target). At the time, it appeared the couple planned to resell the items for marked-up prices. Wills, however, claimed yesterday to Riptide that instead he was planning all along to sell the clothes for charity. He had set up an event benefiting Dress for Success on March 4.

Well today, the Stage, the venue where the charity was to be held, emailed Riptide to let us know Dress for Success has canceled the event and to clarify that the Stage was "not aware of the controversy."

"The Stage was not aware of the controversy associated with the event when [it] was booked by management," a venue representative wrote to us. "The flyer was never approved by The Stage and the information we were provided at the time of booking was that the sole intention of the event was to raise funds for Dress For Success Miami. In the end ... the event was cancelled by Dress for Success."

We reached out to Wills for to comment on The Stage's cancellation. He claims he's been misunderstood yet again.

"I tried to do something good for the community, and all this negative press is ridiculous," he said before declining to comment further.

So what happens to the $5,000 in Jason Wu clothes that Willis snatched up from Target now? Wills isn't saying.

Here's the official statement which says the event was cancelled by Dress for Success. Just clearing the facts:

"The Stage was not aware of the controversy associated with the event when the event was booked by management. The flyer was never approved by The Stage and the information we were provided at the time of booking was that the sole intention of the event was to raise funds for Dress Success Miami. In the end, The Stage was happy to host a charitable event to benefit Dress for Success Miami but as of Thursday, February 23, the event was cancelled by Dress for Success. As you may know, The Stage frequently hosts fundraising events and offers the space at no-cost. In the last year, The Stage has helped raise over $100,000 at the venue and we will continue to use our venue to support our community's fundraising efforts."

Please read the e-mail again. We informed that the event was canceled by the benefiting charity, Dress for Success. The Riptide post we replied to said the event was a go. As the venue, we decided it was important to let the public officially know it had been canceled. Thank you.

Maybe he'll donate them or perhaps he'll try to sell the whole lot like he originally planned before discovering how oversaturated eBay is with these products.  Hopefully its the first option.
