Even Some Marlins Players Don't Like That Ugly Home Run Sculpture

You know by now how we feel about the Marlins' horrendously ugly robotic home run sculpture. It's a horrid affront to all that is good taste and aesthetic decency. But we're not the only ones who have problems with it. Some Marlins players have expressed concerns and worry that the sculpture could interfere with their game.

The monstrosity sits in the center of left field, and its placement could prove a predicament for some hitters; specifically left-handed hitters. It's hard to concentrate on the ball when a psychedelic mountain of garbage is sitting directly behind it.

"If it is an issue, it can no longer be there," Marlins utility player Greg Dobbs told the Miami Herald during spring training. "I won't be the only left-handed hitter saying something. If other teams have a problem with it, they're definitely going to voice their concern to the league."

"It's kind of my job to scope those things out,'' said catcher John Buck. "It might be close. It might be all right. I don't know. We'll see. I think for left-handed batters it might be trouble."

The Marlins' big brass have dismissed the concerns. Team president David Samson says it's not an issue.

The Marlins play their very first game in their new stadium on Tuesday in an exhibition match-up against the Miami Hurricanes. Players should be able to tell by then how much of a distraction the feature may be.

I agree with everything here. What an eyesore!

Steal from taxpayers
Steal from taxpayers

Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria bought it for $100,000 and sold it to the idiots at Miami-Dade County for $2,000,000. Loria and the midget Samson are laughing.

It's somewhere between a Soviet made pinball machine, ribbon candy and those green mystery chunks found in fruitcake. Why not put it on the sandbar where that piano turned up? It would make a great navigational aid and it would ward off sea monsters (by causing them to go into convulsions.)
