Florida Teen Tries to Rob Porn Store With Gun, Gets Talked Into Filling Out a Job Application Instead

Categories: WTF Florida

Cody Conner, 17, walked into an adult novelty store in Debary with a loaded gun and intended to stick-up the cashier. Instead, the employee talked Conner out of the robbery, and actually convinced the kid to fill out a job application.

Of course Conner won't be getting the job. The employee turned over the application, with all of Conner's personal information on it, over to police.

The incident occurred at Cupid's Corner store, which promises on its website that it sells "everything for your erotic desires."

Conner demanded cash from the female employee, but she told him, "don't do this, it's not worth it."

She managed to talk to Conner for 20 minutes, and got him to remove the bullets from the gun. According to WESH, she told him the store might have a job opening, and got him to fill out an application.

The employee and would-be robber then hugged and even smoked a cigarette together.

After Conner left however, the employee walked next door and called 911. Authorities used the job application information to track down Conner. He was arrested and charged with armed robbery. Though, he told the police that the gun he used was only armed with BBs.

well, she couldve changed his life but instead chose the wrong avenue. She couldve held onto that app and the store survellience tape and made a mentor thing out of it and kept up with him. Should he get in further trouble then turn him in ..Now he cant trust anyone...

How is she being a bitch? She was confronted by someone with a loaded gun and was able to calmly resolve the situation. The fact that people are sympathizing a person who tries to commit a crime is just absolutely ridiculous, Florida has a "Stand Your Ground Act", he could have easily been shot and killed just for pulling a gun on someone; regardless if it is full of "BB's" or not, if the victim feels threatened for their life they have the right to kill their aggressor. What she did does not at all merit her to scrutiny, only ignorance would suggest otherwise.

Wy is it necessary to say "loaded" gun? You never see "sharpened" knife or "tinted" sunglasses in an article.

So pleasing to see that the water in America's fountain of stupid still runs deep. All this story needs now are some uber-christian comments about how god had her marked for death for working in such a sinful business. Don't forget your tagline Santorum 2012.

Just because she turned him in doesn't mean she doesn't have compassion for the boy.  If she just lets him go without calling the police whose to say he doesn't try it again somewhere else and actually kill somebody?  Plus how do you think he'll react when he finds out that they aren't going to hire him?

I think the real problem here is the cigarette. Underage smoking, tsk tsk

I am left wondering why was the cigarette necessary? It's is a porn store after all, lots of stimulation around... wink wink say no more :)

Good job she used her brain and saw this was a situation she could handle. Anyone that says she was unsafe or anything, she was being robbed she was already in the danger zone. Remember that video of the cop in the 2nd grade class that shot him self in the foot, and the little girl that got tased for breaking a car window to save a dog. Sometime the police cant handle a situation as fluidly, give her a break.

I wondered if anyone would think she was wrong but I didn't think everyone would. The hugging and smoking a cigarette together is where it gets weird for me. BUT, how about this? Don't go in and point guns at people and think that they are your friend because you put the gun away. Duh!

He said to the man, he wanted many, many thousands of green people from history times.

I guess it takes a little more compassion on the part of the employee to let the kid go (without taking responsibility for his actions). I think that there is no right or wrong decision, the employee just made a choice to teach the kid a lesson.

What a bitch! This is the reason...she could have saved his life...now he's going to jail and shes the reason that when he gets out he will shoot the store clerk instead of talking to her

And when he turns around and ends up shooting someone because she never called the cops? How do you think her conscious will feel then? Listen to yourself, you sound fucking moronic.

Because whether a gun was loaded or unloaded can make a difference in some jurisdictions.

Somehow you managed to turn a story about a porn store robbery into something completely different, sounds like you would probably get along with Santorum

That's happened.  I recall a robber who robbed a subsequent store after being talked out of the first one.

Sometimes these guys aren't 100% rational... go figure.

 Maybe you've never smoked?

If you're stressed out and addicted to smoking, it's a huge relief and makes you feel in control of your stress.  It's a great way to diffuse a situation like a suicidal or violent person... though they have to be addicted for it to work.

Yes, she taught him next time around (and it will be a next time) don't talk just shoot.

 You're mistaken, cloe305,

I remember a story where a clerk talked a man out of a robbery and that man simply robbed another store later that day and was shot.

Someone desperate enough to extort money with violent threats need to be in cages.

you're an idiot. yes, calling the police when threatened by a punk with a gun is *such* a bitchy thing to do.

Criminal mentality there, you know most people dont continually break the law or think like this unless they are very very dumb. Anyone that thinks they can get away with it, well there's a reason our jails are full. Wish he would have done this in AZ, we would put his ass in tent city.

Please.  He walked in with a weapon.  He got what he deserved.

Truth. Can he be charged with armed robbery if he didn't go through with it? Wouldn't 'attenpted robbery'' be the charge, with some kind of firearm violation amended? I'm not saying he didn't commit a crime at all, but by managing to talk him out of it then gettin him arrested, she really did him no favors and actually displayed a lot of selfishness. Talking him down as opposed to just handing over the cash seemed like a selfless move, but stands in stark opposition to the decision that followed. At least he's a minor and will most likely get slapped with a maximum of probation, which may end up straightening him out in addition to whatever pep talk the employee gave him.

He thought bringing a loaded gun to a store to rob it was going to be easy and just a non fault thing to do on Friday. Story over she pulled herself out of that situation and did what she had to do. Bring a gun into my store and your going to get holes or at the best case for you, the police.
